Not too sure what to think...

INDIANAPOLIS -

Online support from across the world is targeting local and state lawmakers to drop the charges against a Fayette County couple after they rescued an injured deer and nursed it back to health. The little deer is gaining quite a lot of attention online. "I had to do something to try to help them," said John Waudby. John Waudby first saw the story about "Dani" the deer on EyeWitness News on Friday night. Connersville Police Officer Jeff Counceller and his wife Jennifer are facing jail time after the DNR says they weren't allowed to nurse the deer and let her live on their property. The day the deer was set to be put down, DNR officers couldn't find her. The Counsellers are facing a jury trial in March with a special prosecutor and judge assigned to the case. John Waudby created a Facebook page early Saturday morning to support the couple he's never met, "I honestly did not expect nearly 3,000 people to flood the Facebook page." But, with "Dani's" story gaining national attention, it's no surprise Facebook users have liked the page. Waudby says there are supporters from all over the world. The Indianapolis man argues the Decatur County Prosecutor should drop the charges against the couple. Waudby believes the online petition to both local and state legislators will make it happen. "Eventually public pressure will drop these charges," said Waudby. Jennifer Counceller told Eyewitness News Sunday that she is "overwhelmed" and "appreciative" of the online support and petition. Counceller told us she has not heard from the DNR or the prosecutor. A spokesperson for the DNR told Eyewitness News on Friday that they usually do not comment on matters going to trial.

Just a typical DNR by the book story, that has gotten blown out of proportion. I feel for those just trying to do good in a world full of idiots. Id like to see the look on their faces when Jesus comes back!

Will like to see how this turns out! Let this be a deer farmer and you would be hung from the highest tree. With groups like QDMA and CWD you would lose everything you worked so hard to get, Just for doing something anyone with a heart would do!

At this point it is pointless. At the start why was it on the porch? Not to sound like a jerk but it may not of been the right thing to do from the start as death is part of mother nature and there are many critters out there that to a level depend on others to die for their food. Sometimes the right thing is the hardest thing to do. At this point in time it just a joke to go after these people.

As a Police Officer / Deer Farmer myself, I agree with Jim (Not too sure what to think). At first, you feel for the police officer trying to do the right thing (in his mind, anyway). But then you must think that as a police officer, you are held to a higher standard, like it or not. Therefore, you must be extra careful how you conduct yourself on a day to day basis. If he wanted to keep the deer, he should have done the research and learned the regulations, just like anyone else that wanted to start raising deer would be expected to do.

On the other hand, it does seem a little ridiculous. He has probably lost his job over the whole ordeal and is now facing serious penalties. It certainly doesn't seem as if the crime fits the punishment.

Don't get me wrong here, I'm as conservative as they come and I'm not for any additional government regulation. We have enough already but we need to follow the existing regulations or go through the proper channels to change /abolish them if we want to continue to be deer farmers.

When I see that 3000 people supported those people on face book I take it as they did the right thing!! We have way too much regulation in our country!! Thats one of the reasons our fine country is in trouble! No one was hurt here , just trying to help an animal, if thats criminal then most of us have been guilty sometime in our life! Im not trying to start anything here , just feel this is ridiculous, for people with good intentions to be charged! Just my thoughts!

You are 100% right. I mean there is right and wrong but we are talkin about an animal here. Not some wanted person that crossed the borders of the Us in the middle of the night! Really!!!

I honestly hope they are aquited of all charges and he still has his job. It was the morale and right thing to do. I wish him and his family well. Oh and Screw qdma and their hyprocritic bunch.

There was a page on facebook....."Drop Charges Against Connersville Police Officer" There hasn't been any activity for a couple months since it was dropped, but you can find some info there.

Thats good to hear and congrats to the govenor for stepping up and realizing their are some things that just make common sense. Hope the LEO still has his job in place and all is well.
