Infected leg on nursing doe.

I posted about a week ago when this doe got in the fence and tore her leg about 2 inches in length right above her foot. Now her leg looks infected and she is nursing her fawn, can I dart her with Baytril or what do you recommend?

If your going to dart her I would choose a product that will last a long time. The only one that fills the bill in my opinion would be Draxxin. Most other drugs will only last 48 hours or less. I would also choose Draxxin because it can be delivered in a 1cc or 2cc dart depending on her weight.

You can .... I would give her 2cc of baytril with 2cc of (48 Penn). If you think its getting worst .... I would dart her and clean her wound out and add ointments or spray it , so it can heal.

When my doe had pressure sores all over the front of her leg, the DVM gave her a shot of Excede (for cattle) which targets leg and skin wounds. It has a life of 9 days+. He also used a "debriding" spray called "Granulex" which I applied to her leg every day (she is tame). Naturally, the deer lick everything off, but it is worthwhile to remove the puss and other infected stuff if in case the deer has not done so already. They are really good at keeping their wounds clean by themselves.

If you are able to put her down and decide to use Draxxin, You might want to administer it Sub Q ( under the skin ) for better results. You could clean the wound at the same time and spray Blu-Kote on it to protect it.
