Has anyone had issues with their fawns having an infection in their bottom teeth and the teeth fall out?? We have had 5 so far this year, and only on the mother raised. I have treated with Nuflor and it has helped, but I have lost 2 and they had the infection as well.

Also, they are still nursing on their moms and are very perky and alert.

TRENCH MOUTH- Fusobacterium necrophorum has been cultured from these guys, very painful.. 0.5 cc per 10 lbs im tetradure and may need sedation to clean white plaques from mouth.. for pain- 2mg per lb twice a day of tramadol works great or hurricane spray daily for 4-5 days.. banamine does not have the pain relief in deer as other animals..a carafate suspension can be made to place on open sores after white plaques are removed.. VACCINATE deer with Fusoguard prior to next fawning season, vaccinating an animal with the disease does not help as much, good luck, God bless!!!

We usually sedate the fawns and give Sodium Iodide IV. LA 200 or Tetradure SQ and squirted on top of sore, remove all dead tissue(white) and scrub with chlorohexadine solution with an old toothbrush. We then rinse out mouth daily with the chlorohexadine solution for several days and give LA200 or Tetradure on the 3rd day again. I have only had this in bottle babies. Wear latex gloves! We use Telozal mixed with sterile water to sedate the fawns and you have to move fast to get it all done in about 15 minutes. Several helpng hands is best. A flashlight helps tremendously to see all the infection. Dr. Joe I believe this was your form of treatment you gave me several years ago...Thanks it saved alot of fawns!!

drjoe, we gave all the fawns Fusoguard at birth. Its not happening to all of them, just a select few. Giving the Nuflor for 2 days seems to get the infection out and they do not loose any gums.

Thanks guys for the advice!

Had our first one this year, but didn't know what it was. I actually found a fang tooth that was growing on the bottom and was able to pull it out easily....weird. I gave her 1 cc of LA 300 and it is cleared up.

This is why I posted lot of info on my websites about ten years ago other than here that is the only place you could find help.

I just couldn’t keep up with all the questions and don’t reply to all the emails anymore, I just send them here.
