Intranasal pneumonia vaccine

Has anyone used any of the intranasal vaccines for respiratory problems? I have used Presponse in 2009 and didn't have any problems with pneumonia. Last year I didn't vaccinate and had lots of problems with pneumonia especially as a secondary infection from EHD/Bluetongue. As dry and dusty as it is here I predict another bad year for respiratory issues. The intranasal vaccines are designed to be used at day one and figured I could incorporate this into my fawn tagging.

This is the first I've heard of this type of vaccine, but it sounds like you've had a little success with it. Did you purchase it from your vet or another source? What was the dosing schedule?

I'll google it as well... interesting.

Thanks Ross.

You can purchase through most feed stores/vet supply that sell vaccines. You can purchase through a vet but will probably pay a little more. I was told about the nasal vaccine a couple years ago by my vet but am finally thinking about using it this year.

Does it require a booster at weaning? What about subsequent years-booster?

It does say a booster is required at weaning. My thought is to vaccinate at birth with a nasal vaccine and then at weaning use the Presponse vaccine SQ. Just curious if anyone has tried the nasal route, I guess I'll give it a try and see how it goes.

Ross,

We give two ml's in the nose within 24 hours of birth and booster at weaning. Attached two photos of what we use at Apple Creek. Hope this helps and good luck with your fawning.
