Hello future friends. I am learning and considering starting a deer in Talladega, AL. I'll be attending the convention and wanted to here from you all what I should try to see, who I should talk to and what sort of things should I try to accomplish at the show? Thanks a bunch for any input you may have. -Derek

First stop should be the new farmer seminar. After that i would try to get to as many of the classes that you can. Then meet as many farmers from your home state as possible and have fun.

Derek,

Please be sure to stop by my booth.  Look for a sign in Orange/Black saying Honey Creek Whitetails.

I would be happy to meet you and talk about deer.

Hope to see you

Nate

Be careful and take your time. Set your goals and understand what you are trying to accomplish. Most of us are raising shooters even though half the people in Alabama still think they are in the breeder market. They get caught up in the hype. The other thing to really do your homework on is survivability. Ehd is prevelant in Alabama.

Raising deer is the most fun job I have ever had! Take your time and do it right. One of the best places to get information is here. Go to the convention, it is great. Talk to everybody there. Be sure to talk to the small deer farmers that are not trying to sale you something.

This is some really good feedback. As it relates to EHD, what are the categories of ways to deal with that? Misting? Genetics?

We'll be at booth 517. while I don't have anything for sale as far as deer, we do install deer fencing. And everybody knows that you gotta have one of those if you want to breed deer.

A great guy to speak with will be Scotty Hooper. He is in Alabama and will be at the show. His farm is H and H Whitetails. 256-338-8605. He will be glad to talk to you.
