Which two year old buck would you bred with. Same genetics on the doe and the buck. Just by looks which is a better buck? One has the points and the other has the frame.
Great question, I believe I would choose the buck on the left with the typical frame. He has good G2 and G3 length. The few smaller sticker points should develope into nice fliers as he matures. Yet having a big open frame clean on the inside making for a strong looking deer. Sounds pretty good anyhow. Just what I like. Allen
Thanks for the thoughts Allenb! I find myself thinking along the same lines, but it is really hard to get away from just wanting to bred for the biggest score.
I voted for a large frame over score. Now, having said that - I don't mind using a doe out of a high scoring buck to be bred with big framed buck. I just cross my fingers and hope that the genetics from the sire's big frame are loaded with some extras from the high scoring doe.
Gotta admit, it's pretty fun trying to guess what will come out of the different crosses you try - and also admit that the outcome is not always what you expected.
Somewhat tougher here. I want 200+ deer. And once that is reached, then frame, body etc.. come into play. Those two deer look like they will finish far higher. So, I like the one on the left better

Thanks everyone for the feedback! We will probablly use the one on the left this year and the one on the right we will save for next year maybe he will gain some spread. The left one is a 5X5 but the g4's are small. His grandsire had small g4's at 2 as well, but gained about 4 inches at 3 so hopefully that's be the case here.
Jim, Does the yearling on the left have a damaged right antler? If he does I would choose him. Breeding with a buck that is very balanced is important. If you have future shooters that are high scoring, but they have one antler noticeably smaller than the other, you will have to hold onto those shooters longer than you can afford to. It would have been nice to see Shadow this year at 4, just to see if he would have been more balanced.
