Do you all think that some northern Bloodlines have more livability in the south than other ones? And if so witch ones do you think have the most?

What bloodlines do you guys in Oklahoma have the best luck with living some guys I talk to say they dont have as good of luck with some bioodlines as Others? Where the heat is

like AL, OK, MISS, LA, TX.

Headly, please be more specific about what your wanting because some may misinterpret heat tolerance for parasite or EHD and bluetongue tolerance! The reason being because it does make a difference about the later more so than the heat! No offense Loyd.

I am thinking Parasite EHD and Biuetongue tolerance not heat. Thanks for keeping me on track no offense taken Loyd.

There doesn't seem to be a certain bloodline that does better or worse. To me, It depends on the deer itself. Some say that some are born with a tolerence and some aren't. I have learned that if you bring one down and it lives 2 years, then you have a breedable animal. That animal seems to also pass down this trait to survive. And some you bring in dont live a week.????

Just my $.02

Thank you for your concern about offending me. But, I was 1 of 10 children raised in a 3 bed room house with no inside toilet. My father died when I was 10 and my saint of a mother worked and raised us on social security of 70 dollars a month. I also have 2 retail businesses. Now I have 7 additional family members , 3 under 3 years old, living with me due to health and loss of jobs. It is difficult to offend me. With that said I will say it again. Our southern customers are very happy with our deer. Reed how big is that Larry yearling you have? Rambo was raised in OK and Eddy Ray in Tx,. I am sure both are difficult places to raise wt with the heat and EHD. Loyd L.Ervin

If I were looking with an AI sire in mind, it would either have to be one that directly gets regular exposure to ehd and heavy parasitic growth environmental conditions! I prefer deer who get the Ehd and survive it! With that said my next question is are you looking for clean frames or trash?

It is our understanding that the EHD prevention is passed on through the does to their offspring. There is a lot of buck semen from the north that has gone south without a problem. Think of all the Max offspring or anything the Flees have like Bucky or Sudden Impact. We have sold semen to the south as well and seems as though it really hasn't made a difference as long as it was used in southern does.

Loyd, He is doing great. Still alive and doing good. He is a perfect 6x6, and putting on tine legth now. I'll get a pic of him for ya this afternoon.

loyd has a really great line of deer coming from twister and larry you can look at some very great typicals and you will see Larry some where in the line these deer thrive in some of theorst places to grow a whitetail . The more I look into deer that I want to use the more I am sure that MY DEER will have larry in their backgound if I want them to survive and thrive in a heat and bug infested world.

I think this thread is called liveability in the south if I'm not mistaken. I didn't want to go here but let me clarify my earlier post! Lloyd's Larry Buck is awseome on passdown. I even bought a replica set from his fourth year antlers because he was what I wanted in my herd. That being said and Loyd correct me if I'm wrong he died of a liver fluke, a nasty parasite that's hard to pinpoint early on! I do not know if Loyd personally has ever had Ehd on his farm or not, maybe he will say. You fellas in Oklahoma deal with Ehd every year? We do! Now vaccinated or not you can only cover Main strains type1,2,6 yes? Then there are the mutated versions to which there is no vaccine. The labs will always be a year or two behind on formulating, grow kill replicate new ones. Headly, if I were trying to make a decision on a breeding program set up not to fail ,one only has to look at the way Texas deer farmers operate! How so? The top farmers will all tell you that bringing in northern blood has made big blood flow on there farms

. But as soon as they can they try to reduce that percentage by breeding there 50-50's back to Texas deer to achieve a 1/4 to 1/8 is best for survivability. If you have Ehd visit your farm annually and you intend to AI those exposed animals , I would use sires likewise! We have a Buck that we call Air King, he is Rolex/Pepsi breeding that we bought from Nathan Blosser. One knows what kind of Ehd he,s had on his place. He is growing out nicely on this heat in northeastern Louisiana. Its 103* today with115 heat index!! He,s not even breaking a sweat. I will try to get pics posted tomorrow! He,s already bigger than last year and I will promise that he will grow every day in August! Last year he was 272"@ 3. Jason:)

We deal with EHD/BT EVERY year. One year we lost half of our herd. So, Yeah, we deal with it.
