What isn't needed, doesn't make sense....am I being overcharged????

Dee, one important ingredient you need is selenium added because Michigan has no selenium in the ground. We used to add 6 pounds per 3 ton when we were mixing feed. I am buying 18 % ADM for 12.90 per 50 #  which comes out to $516.00 per ton. We quit mixing years ago when the selenium did not get mixed good enough and we lost a fawn from selenium toxicity. The mom ate it and passed it to the fawn. One of them rare things that happened.

Chapter 8 in my book Deer Whisperer tells all about our feed problems we had.       www.deerwhispererbook.com

Talk to a Purina representative! They have this all figured out! They have scientists and nutritionists working on this stuff all the time. You can't match the time and effort they have out into it"

How can you know if it has everything deer need? I am not a nutritionist but Purina has a ton of them. They feed very type of animal there is and have researched it all for years. Cost is important but it isn't everything!

Purina priced itself right out of MY business 2 years ago. I now mix my own with a Cargill pellet/grain/soybean meal, oil blend, about $360-390 ton bulk. My deer look better then they ever have on purina and I fed it for 2 years, woulda went broke if I continued on it. My deer tell me there getting what they need by the way they look and act. The buck in my profile pic is one of my 2 years olds. I know Cargill is a small mom and pop company but I think they must have some sort of nutritionist on staff that has fooled around with feed mixes before ;)

Just came back from a Purina seminar.  They have two new products available that are going to be more affordable.  They are Antler Advantage Deer 20 and Antler Advantage Breeder 16.  I don't have pricing on it, you would have to contact your dealer.  The thing about Purina is they actually have a deer nutritionist, Dr. Varner, who has been with them for 30 years.  Most other feeds have cattle people that they ask to develop a deer feed for them.  Purina has spent a lot of time and money developing their product and are continually tweaking it.  They have developed their bypass technology that helps the protein bypass the first rumen and stomach and make it to the small intestine so it can be absorbed there and more goes to the antlers.  They formulate the feed for different regions depending on your areas' need for minerals.  They have small amounts of copper in the feed, which is necessary.

The bottom line is you just can't beat their research and commitment to the deer industry.  Dr. Varner said that deer can live on a lot of things and survive, but we certainly want them to do more than that.  I think a lot of the issues people have with their deer can be traced to the feed.  If they have cowpies instead of pellets, that is the feed.  Too much starch causes the slipper foot so many have.  Many feeds are high in starch and if you feed some corn besides they are getting too much.  Also, your deer may eat less on a balanced diet since they aren't trying to compensate for something missing.

Lastly, if you want to try one of these new products, you can buy 3 tons and get the fourth free!!!  Yes a free ton of Purina feed!  I think that's a pretty good deal.  The only requirement is that you have 50 deer or more.  The offer is good through June 30.  If you decide to do this, please let them know we sent you!

Forgot to mention that the free trial is only available to deerfarmers in Wisconsin, Minnesota, Illinois, Iowa and the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.

Apparently this is something our region is doing, not everyone.  Maybe you could contact your local Purina dealer and have them check into it for you.

Is there a special promo I would need to give Purina?

I am in Central MN and would consider switching, to give them a try out?
