Kentucky
I have been doing research on owning and operating a deer farm in Kentucky for almost a year now and feel the time has come to begin visiting different farms and making contacts throughout the east coast to see other farms and meet others to discuss and observe the industry first hand. I have waited this long trying to get more information to know exactly what I was looking at and for. I plan on attending the conference this week and also the siminar on beginning farming. I'd love to begin my visits close to home so I can understand Kentucky requirements and the problems I could and probably will encounter my first year. Any Farmers close by that want some company? Also are there many women in this business and are there different problems that exist for a women in this industry? Thanks and I look forward to meeting everyone this week...

Kathie stop by our booth we sold a doe last year to a KY farmer, of course he had to keep it in OH untill the border opens...

Thanks for the reply. That was one thing I wonder about is the fact KY isn't open to transporting in or out of Deer. Is there some move to change that or some avenue to get around it? What about border closing, are there both pros and cons to having closed borders? I have researched the number of hunt farms in KY and it appears (at first sight) they may out number the breeding farms which based on my small amount of knowledge could be an advantage to the breeding farms in KY? Am I right about this or am I looking at it wrong? I hope to find out the answers to these questions and many others I have by making contacts with farmers that have been in the business a few years.

Again Thanks for your answers and I look forward to meeting you this week.

Pros of closed border goes to the guy that sells a deer to you at a stupid amount because you cant get it anywhere else. When infact you could buy the same deer or even a much better one from a state next door!!!!! Cons go to you because you have no choice, pay it or move on.All boarders should be open i mean this is all of america isnt it.It would be your best intrest to mabey get a deer or two at the best price you can(good luck) and then fight with all you have to get your border open!!!
