NJ, deer are kept in PA
What should I treat it with that would be able to be darted? Any follow ups after the first treatment?

Thanks

If you can i would put him right out and make sure you get med's into him. I have had success with Nuflor.Micotil,Draxxin when darting for Lumpy but you need to keep the med's as warm as possible and dart right away.

Draxxin by dart- Nuflor by syringe

Nuflor will dart if kept warm, use 1 inch,tri-port needles. Have had success a few times. Warm is important. But would rather use syringe to be 100% sure he got full dose.

Thanks for The replys. Have to make a few phone calls to find some micotil.

If I end up tranquilizing him, should I Lance the lump or syringe the liquid out of it?

you know that Micotil is very dangerous to humans?? Be careful with it.

I'd use Draxxin first..

Depends how it looks really. I will always syringe if i can and then fill it back up with an antibiotic and flush it out again. Yes Micotil is dangerous just like any other medication. Safety first always but never shy away from a good antibiotic. IMO.

If it is noticeable I would sedate. Make a 1/4-1/2" incision at the lowest spot, so if it begins to refill it automatically drains. I always flush it with hydrogen peroxide/iodine, which helps get into deep pockets of infection. I treat with 6cc/100lb of nuflor SQ. Nuflor is great for fuso, pneumonia, and bone infections. I also treat with a good dose of penicillin. this generally clears it up first time around. Any other questions give me a call. Ryan

Thank you for the warnings. Yes,I am aware micotil is dangerous. I have a 5 year old daughter that is hands on when it comes to darting and giving deer meds. That's why I do not keep micotil on hand. She is my runner and grabs me what i need from the box when needed. As much as I would use it, I just buy a few ccs from local farmers around me when needed

It is noticeable. I think I will sedate him. Cut a incision, flush with peroxide and iodine. Then treat with whatever I can find wetter it be micotil, nuflor or draxxin. Never thought about penicillin. Sure couldn't hurt

Got the meds. Micotil, dex, and another I can't remember at the moment Thank you all for the replys!!

D&T. You kinda beat me to it. I was gonna post/ask, will the meds make the lump go away by themselves, or must they be lanced?

They may but if you ever have one rot out the side of a face a blow a hole big enough the she had flies going in the side of her face and then would come out her open mouth you will forever drain and treat. Not nice looking at a deer and seeing her rear teeth looking back at you.
