I live in central illinois and was wondering if anybody in the area used maxrax deer feed 16% protien mix and if you had good results? Also wanted to know what the price was for a ton?
I have never used that feed or heard of it, but I've learned over the last 6 years that a 16% feed works very nicely for deer. bucks can grow nice racks on 16% protien (also be fed alfalfa hay and access to mowed pature grass during the summer). The problems i've had with expirimenting with feeds over the years is too much protien, high protien needs to be offset with higher fat levels or your deer will stay thin. when i fed 21% protien i had some does get the scours and it lasted until i bumped the protien level back down. How much fat does the feed contain? I always like mine in the range of 4-7%
I use a 16% from ADM. I get great service and next delivery. The only other thing I use is rolled soybeans, and add 1 scoop per bucket of feed. They get all the extra good natural fat and protien from the beans.
A ton of bagged feed, plus 10 bags of beans was approx. $650. Bulk would be cheaper if you have a grain bin.
Call Tom from ADM and tell him I sent you, he's awesome! 260-242-1060.
Availibility is a must so i did some calling today and found i can get ADM-Rack Plus 18% protien 2.5% crude fat and pick it up only 20 minutes from my house,my only concern is i would rather use a 16% protien and would like my crude fat to be closer to 5%. So i guess my next question is does anybody use the rack plus and how do they like it?
I have been feeding ADM-Rack Plus 18% for a few years now and all my deer seem to do real well on it. I buy it by the bag since my herd is not real big and I pay around $12.00 per bag ( 50 lbs. ) right now. You can buy it in bulk and have it delivered also if that is more suitable for you. I know it's cheaper by bulk. They also have different things you can have put in it for different applications, like garlic for flies and thermal for the summer months to help keep the deer from overheating and they can add safe guard in the feed whenever you want to deworm your deer. The nice thing is whatever you put in the feed it's all in pellet form and not much gets wasted. Hope this helps somewhat.
We fed Maxrax 16% pelleted ration for 3 years and I was very happy with it. We are now feeding the maxrax 16% textured mix. You should be able to have either delivered to you in the Mason city area which is not to far from us. Shane Horrocks who is the owner of Maxrax is a super guy to work with and really knows his stuff on nutrition.
Thanks guys for all your help i appreciate it. I've talked to several feed dealers the last few days and have found one that i can pick-up feed thats only 20 min. from home, and has all the ingredients i was looking for. Thanks again.
