Last night had something scare the deer and a few of them must have hit the fences as they are scraped up the worst one has a swollen eye and a few scrapes on her face and legs would you give her anything or watch her for a few days to see if she gets better on her own. I dont have a chute so would have to dart Thanks Nick

Without looking at the severity of the swollen eye, it's hard to say what I would do.

If you have Draxxin, you could dart her with a dose of that as a precautionary measure, but chances are, unless she actually did damage to the eye itself, she's apt to be fine.

Hope the best for ya Nick!

She doesn't appear to have damaged the eye ball just a cut above the eye which has swollen making it look worse then it is almost swollen shut she doesnt seem to be in pain so will just keep my eye on her to make sure isnt many flies messing with it

Spray it with Vetericyn spray (for eyes) which you can buy at TSC for $30 a bottle. It's a large bottle and lasts a long time. Worked great for me.

Lana - Just to point out, Nick said he would have to ''dart the deer'' to treat it.

Not disagreeing with you Mark....but Dura Pen/Penicillin i think works best for that kind of stuff......however if you have to put the animal down i would do as advised above ...keep a good eye on them first...... and at the first sign of something not right ...hit em good with the antibiotics!!......Draxin has always worked well for respiratory things in my opinion.......but thats my opinion........for what its worth...LOL!

Are you picking on me Dennis? I think your picking on me! :)

Dennis - I was referring to what was available for Nick to dart without knocking the deer down...and, kinda like ''something might be better than nothing'' if he felt like doing something w/o knockin the deer down.

You're apt to be right about what is ''best''. But again, I was just referring Nick to Draxxin because it is a dartable antibiotic.

Now where's that face with the tongue stickin out?!!

Oh...almost forgot...how's your love life Brother? Hope it all works out for ya!!! LOL

ohhhhh Mark......we are getting a little crazy here are we not. My brother.........trust me...not trying to disagree by any means as I know you were farming fpdeer way before me...........is Penicillin not a dart able drug....I do know ot is dedinetly thicker......

lol...a little crazy you say? Just havin some fun with ya. And just wanted to express my position clearer so you understood it for what it was meant to.

And seriously, I would never be offended if you disagree with me...I can't force you to be right! LOL

And seriously seriously...I wouldn't think Penicillin would dart well at all...it is a whole lot thicker than Draxxin. I could be wrong though.

Don't forget...I still plan on being your best man...just let me know when two you pick the date. I sense we're getting close! :)

Check your PM Dennis...

Thanks for the advice didnt dart and "didnt treat her as she is a older doe that knows when your up to something " and she is doing fine swelling has gone away and she is acting fine
