Saturday August 27th is fast approaching for the Mississippi Whitetail/SGRA meeting in Boloxi Mississippi. We currently have about 100 attendees with an excess of 45 rooms booked. We are expecting at least 30 enclosure owners at this meeting.

Now is the time to call and offer your support, even if you cannot attend ,please donate something to us so we can raise monies to promote legistlation to allow deer farming and importation in Mississippi.

Don't be bashful, we need items and are grateful for any you can help with.

Thoughts on some items for considering to donate that will not break the bank but help us tremendously:.

Fawn cradles

dart pistol and darts

Fawn milk

fawn tagging supplies

Whitetail Guide

Subscriptions to whitetail industry magazines

membership to Nadefa

etc..............

P.S. here is an opportunity to get in on the ground floor of a new business landscape. Don't be the only deerfarmer who has no contacts in Mississippi! Sorry, no semen allowed.

To make a long painful story short, Mississippi does not allow importation of semen unless approved by the MDWFP. (like they could tell if there was something to worry about) so we decided not to take a chance of having the whole dang room arrested for selling unauthorized semen in Mississippi. If we are successful in our 2012 legislative actions, this problem will go away. Now you can understand somewhat as to why we want to get rules and regulations consistent with the rest of the industry including open borders to buy and sell whitetail deer. MDWFP has some more screwy ideas they plan to float out in a meeting on 9/22. I can't wait to hear them!

That's the goofiest thing I've heard about semen! I didn't think there was a state anywhere that didn't allow semen in. If you store it out of state - as many people do - is there an issue when you try to ship it back? How do they know where it came from in the first place? One of those rules that is totally unenforceable.

Ditto, thats some of the goofy regulations we need to change. Listen to this one........MDWFP has said they will possibly allow importation of WT deer from neighboring states with closed borders. Alabama and Texas are the two states they mentioned specifically. In Texas, there are only 11 deer breeders that can legally export their deer. In Alabama, they have been testing for CWD since 2009....but since the borders have been "closed" since the late 70's the state GRANDFATHERED the WT breeders a 5 yr or better CWD status. If you were Mississippi and considering WT Deer importation, wouldn't it be prudent to allow deer from states with a bonafied CWD program which has done actual testing for 5+ years? Now if you are a deer breeder in Alabama or Texas....this means you could possibly sell your deer at inflated prices to Mississippi farmers........Hmmmmmm! I think I will get the campaign finance records of the Governor, Lt. Governor etc in Mississippi and see if there are any big donations from folks in states that tend to gain from this bizzarre suggestion.

The contributors list is quite interesting. Also the relationship between contributors and the MDWFP foundation is intriguing. More to come later!

Wisconsin was one of the first states to have a CWD program. We have been testing our deer since 2002! Nearly 10 years of test records to provide to any state or individual interested in purchasing deer. I'm not sure many state agencies have those kind of records for their wild deer!

Members and Friends,

The SGRA Banquet and Fundraiser was a big success in many ways. Several of our members got awards recognizing their accomplishments and/or contributions to the deer industry. We had the largest variety of items for auction that we have ever had. Hunts, fishing trips, jewelry, hunting supplies, deer farming supplies....too many to mention them all.

The membership was treated to filet mignon and grilled chicken for dinner. The socializing and meet and greet session went great.

Our information meeting was very informative. A special Thanks to Carolyn Laughlin (NADeFA) and Tommy Snell (MDFA) for their comments.

A special thanks to our Banquet Coordinator Jerome Foti, for excellent preparation and execution. Thanks also to our two auctioneers Louis Bacile and Fred Heubner.

We were fortunate to have as our guest Senator Tommy Gollott, who has vowed to continue the fight to make deer farming a reality in Mississippi.

Oh yea.......we made a little money for the Association as well.

To all of our Donors and Buyers, I would like to extend my most heart felt thanks! Without you, this event would not have been possible.

The New Officers and Board have already begun planning next year's event. My cell phone has not stopped ringing since we left Biloxi.

Thank You ALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
