I have a doe that looked a little sick yesterday one of her ears was hanging down (pointing at the ground) and she looked as if she did not want to put wieght on one of her front legs.

So I gave her some Baytral, vit. B, and some Bannamien (sp).

Today she looks better and I have seen her eat several times but what I have not seen is her feed her two fawns. The fawns have tryed a time or two but she kicks them off.

The mama is very tame and raised her fawn and adopted one last year and she was just a yearling herself.

So what more would you do? I do have a doe with fawns in the pen but it don't look like she is will to adopt more just yet. I thought about pulling them but they are 3 weeks old although I think I can catch them pretty easy.

I would watch for day or 2 see if mother starts to feed them again if she doesn't by then they will be pretty hungry may be easier to start. If they are 3weeks old a couple days shouldn't hurt they should be alot stronger than a new born.

today is day 2 and the fawns are walking around the pen bleating so I can tell they are hungry but I have seen them eat clover and dirt. the Mama still has milk but if it don't look like they have ate by tomarrow I may try something just not sure what.

I did put a bottle on a pole and stuck it in there face and they smelled it then ran away so much for that idea.

If the doe is ill, she will know it and won't let her fawns eat because her milk will be tainted due to her infection/fever/whatever. You may not have a choice but to pull them, unless there are other does in your pen that they can steal milk from. We lost a doe last year that had 3 week old fawns on her, and they managed to steal plenty from willing donors. We were lucky.

I only have one other doe in the pen that has fawns on her I pulled the other's and started on the bottle.

Not sure if she has an infection or not but she is limping on her front leg. Her ears are starting to stand back up and she is eatting. I did see her licking on the fawns but she just won't let them eat.

If the fawns make it anougher day or so by stealing what they can from the other doe, do you think she will start to feed them again once she is feeling better? If so how long before her milk dryes up?

I would really hate to try and start them on the bottle (3 weeks I have trouble after 3 days)

Thanks for all the help.

If you pull them, I would feed them formula in a bowl. We did that 2 years ago with 3 fawns and it all turned out OK for us. They are for the most still tame today. It seems like we fed them twice a day. I would think they would eat grass or clover for you too. Good luck.

Her milk bag may be sore and hard from not feeding. that may be why she licks them now but won't feed them. Maybe try milking her to relieve some pressure just a thought probaly have to put her down to do that thowe.
