I have a sick buck fawn that I suspect could have coccidiosis.

Can I give straight Corid orally to him safely? If so, how much?

I have Corid (amprolium); 9.6% oral solution, Coccidiostat

I thought I read on this forum that you could, but I want to be sure. He is a great buck fawn. According to what I can figure out, the dose should be 1.5cc for a 30-35 pound fawn. Am I right?

Thank you much in advance!

Thanks for your response Robert. The fawn was 3 months old. He died last night. I darted him and brought him home here to my bottle feds (he was mother fed). I brought him here so I could control his water. He was on his feet when I went to bed. As he was coming around, and before he regained fully from being put down, we gave him Albon orally.

Robert, you said worm them with Safeguard wormer 1.6oz. per 100lbs. Is this a liquid you put on the feed? I normally use Ivomec, but I am limited to worming only when I knock them down. Can I dart Ivomec safely? I give my deer Panacur orally through a slice of bread also. In a few minutes I am taking the fawn to the vet for a post mortem.

Robert,

The fawn died of worm infestation. They called it a "thread worm". Ordering pellets today.

And ain't it the truth, it is nearly always the best, or at least in the top 10% of what you have, that you lose.

Thanks again Robert.

Robert,

I am a newbie for 3 months now. I was just reading these post. Your last post is interesting because I currently have a three month old doe fawn that I have separated from the rest.

I first treated her for a lump on the jaw which i have treated and is currently gone, but with the treatment I believe I have messed up her digestive system because she is very loose black and somewhat bloody. This is what caught my eye in your post. Seems like colitis inlaw use to get it.

I have treated her with sprecta guard, Pumpkin, yogurt, and kayopectate, and electrolytes she has been this way for 4 days with tonight she is beginning to show signs of peletizing but still is black and bloody. We Wormed her about a week ago with ivermec 2cc.

What is your experience with the black bloody poo?

She is still sepatated but if the pelletization increases she should be ready joint the rest.

Thank you

Thank you for the information. Have begun and will continue this regimen until my little girl clears up. This is another one of those notes that will go into our little book of how to do ???.

Thank you
