Good morning what is the treatment for arterial worms? I believe that I have lumpy jaw going on due to being parasitic. What should deer be wormed for, in general, what dewormer & how often?? I'm also using baytril..is that sufficient??

thank you very much in advance

Had one show that a few days ago. Treated with injectable ivermic and was just looking at it this evening and the bottle jaw was gone. We will treat again in 10 to 12 days to get the stage 1. Also treated all in that pen.

I’m having the same problem. 3 fawns 6 weeks old or so they all have random swelling in the jaw and it will come and go. Worse at times. I’ve given penicillin orally Incase it was infection and now think it might be arterial worms. We’ve never had a case of true “lumpy jaw” on our property so I don’t think it’s that. I worked today with 1/4 cc ivermectin orally. One of the baby’s was drooling a bit tonight and labored breathing 😔 any tips?

I wont use Ivermectin on a fawn. We use the oral safeguard. Our vet told us not to use Ivermectin on fawn. I cant remember the reason for it but he recommended the oral safeguard instead.

I have wormed new born fawns with ivermic when I thought the does had worms. I have not killed a fawn with ivermic. Even if the doe is clean of worms worms will go through the does system and some end up in the uterus and go dormant till the fetus is in there. Then the fawns are born with worms so that is the reason I will worm fawns. If I see I'm dealing with tape worms I will use Valbazen and give them that oral.
If we are talking about bottle jaw I'm under the impression only ivermic will kill those worms or at least it works the best for me. Bottle jaw is a floppy watery bump right under the middle of the jaw which is caused by worms. Bumps that are under the eye or around the face are fuso bacterium and filled with puss.
If these lumps are fuso bacterium no wormer will help that and the drug of my choice would be draxxin. I've been in the deer and elk business for 40 years and this is how I work my deer.
