New deer farmer in MICHIGAN

Hey guys,

My brother in-law in Hillsadale county has been wanting to raise deer for a while now, especially after watching mine over the years. He has found some really nice deer in Ohio, the genetics he really wants, from a reputable, CWD/TB/Bruc tested herd without any issues and plenty of time.

The problem is that since he will be a "new" deer farmer, he was told that he must be in business for 36 months before he's allowed to bring deer in from another state. Which doesn't do him any good to get the genetics of his dreams. I'm sure there is a solution out there so anybody with any ideas, please feel free to PM me. Thanks!

Sorry, but there is no solution to his problem. Until he is in business for 3 years, he cant import deer. There are some great deer in Michigan to choose from. Its not the end of the world. Have him give me a call and I can talk him through everything up here in Michigan.

36 month Before you can import deer into Michigan............That seems odd. But i guess just ANOTHER ODD thing in the Deer Business????? LOL

Todd, It took 9 years to make that happen on limited bases, the reason is the agencies do not know if the new produceres will abide by the rules and/or maintain their health standards. They wanted time to have producers There have been a few animals moved into state from Pa, In, and maybe more. If the fed rules ever settle down maybe it will be more. But with all this, there are just as many producers in Michigan that want the state closed as to want it open so we are up against that also within our own ranks.
