Hello,

We just joined and wanted to say hello. This forum is very informative and we look forward to learning more about deer farming. We have 24 acres in NE Alabama where we are currently establishing a wildfowl hunting preserve as well as establishing several food plots for deer and fowl. We are toying with the idea of establishing a breeding program for whitetail deer to release into a future fenced area of our farm where we may offer bow-hunting. We don't know if this will come to fruition, but the information contained within this forum will certainly assist us with our decision regarding the deer!

Also just wanted to add a little input regarding predation from ***** and canines. We've read many of you are having difficulties with predators. I would recommend looking at some trapping forums and locating a local trapper in your area. Most trappers I know are stewards of the land and there are many different trap sets that can be used for raccoons and canines, some very safe to domestic pets. This would eliminate your predation problem and allow the trapper to utilize the trapped animals in a productive way vs. just killing them and "wasting" them. Just thought we would toss that out there!

Thanks for all of the great information and have a wonderful day!

Welcome, great comment. We use a trapper for coyotes at my farm in Alabama. It really works out well. Feel free to contact me if you need any help or have questions. My farm is near Eufaula Al.

Welcome..If you have any questions contact me and I will help you anyway that I can..There are alot of people out there and I am sure they can also help ..Best of luck to you

Thanks Wayne!

We most certainly will give you a call if needed. Is there a specific link that you know of that list any requirements with deer farming in Alabama? I know we need the Commercial Breeders License from AL DNR for cervid (we have that for some of our wild fowl already). And we have a State business license for the farm. Are there any other "specifics" we need to know about? Any limitations on number of deer per acre, etc?

Thanks again!

I would call your local DCNR officer and let him go through the steps with you. Then you don't miss anything since you will see him each year for your annual inspection.

Hey Richie, good to see y'all at the Birmingham show!
