Hello everybody, brand new this and ready for advice. Not sure if I am even starting my own thread. I would like to start a small farm in West Virginia any advice would be greatly appreciated. We have raised cattle, sheep and AI'd pigs so I assume that raising Giant bucks would be great to add to the resume.

First thing is expect to lose money for 2-3 years. 2nd, visit as many other deer farms in your area as you can. I too have just started and visiting farms in your area and talking to the farmers there will be a big help for you.

The most exciting time will be the day you get your first deer and the you get rid of the last ones lol. I would suggest you start small less than 10 deer because the feed bill is going to add up fast! Expect to lose money for at least 2-3 years and expect the bills to keep piling up. Like volk said visits as many farms as you can and listen and learn. It's fun watching them grow and kids love to see them but the bills are real so be ready for them.

id say if you don't LOVE deer then don't do it... I mean think about it all day ;). its a passion for most of us I would say... vs money maker... but some have figured out how to make money!!

I am relatively new as well and am working towards basically the same goal. Look up Toth Whitetails he has a nice farm in the northern part of the state and is extremely helpful!
