Oral sedation??

There is a product that does not sedate, but can help0 take the edge off a bit. It is an herbal remedy called quietex. Haldol (valium) can be given in the water, but dosage rates are tricky and it too does not sedate, just makes them a little "mellow".

I have squirted rompum in thier mouth before and it worked. Maybe put it on piece of bread or something and try if you can't get close enough to squirt on tongue

I do agree with virgil...

It does work, I don't know how safe or the exacts of it... but I darted a doe...Another deer came up and licked her dart wound...She went down...not out... but was effected. And another deer farmer also had the same thing happen. They both were fine later. I would worry because of the fact oral may last longer...reversing dangers...ECT but if there is a good enough reason to risk it maybe.

Thanks guys. I've got a couple of people at the vet school here that are gonna work on it and see if they can come up with anything. I need to tranq about 15 bucks at one time. I'm just trying to come up with a way to reduce the stress on them. Does anyone know what problems could pop up giving xylazine orally? The quietex may be the way to go. A little mellow is better than nothing.

I will not sedate deer if they have had food within 12-24 hours unless it is an emergency. Why do you need them all down at once? Cut anterls, move pens??
