I recieved an email from outdoor life again today and they are back at deer farming and high fence hunting. This time they have a different spin on things but still taking a shot at us by saying we feed steroids and such.Wish i could put the link up but i have no idea how to do such a thing..outdoorlife.com

What I find really ironic is the fact that some of our bucks have been on their covers!!! Of course no one knows they are our bucks - but what a bunch of hypocrites!!

No deerfarmer anywhere should be buying or subscribing to that magazine. I think NADeFA should step in on this one.

Hey, everyone is entitled to their opinion but when this magazine uses photos from ranches or preserves, that makes them two faced and I agree, someone needs to call them out BUT, let me also offer something more. Say someone or an organization does call them out, that could potentially make yet another front for us to have to defend. I am not saying by any means I agree with them because I cant be more opposite, I have hunted many preserves and will continue to do so, we just need to be tackfull on how we go about it. Has one preserve owner out there hosted Outdoor Life or allowed them to use your deer for their magazine? It would be nice to offer up just where these photos came from to the public or better yet an outdoor event like the HBG Sportsman Show, LOL

Henry i think then they would put a spin on it and say oh we are talking about high fence hunting not deer farmers in general!! You know how that goes!!!

Many hunting magazines purchase photos of whitetail deer from high fence ranches. We now have the ability to promote and sell big buck photo to hunting magazines. This will eventually attract more hunters to check us (high fence ranches) out. They may even book a hunt and like the hunters at Apple Creek they will come back with their family and friends year after year. Keep the high road what can't be convinced in words is being said in photography.

We need to take a more proactive approach at creating and promoting a positive image for both deer farming and preserve/ranch hunting. I have some ideas and I am sure others do as well. I think we should start a post in the members only section to flesh out the details. This must be a collective effort by all deer farmers, preserve/ranch owners, NADFA and all of the state organizations that represent who we are. I don't believe that the solution is to go on the defensive, that displays weakness and will achieve exactly what they want, to draw attention to the alleged negatives. Instead, we need to educate and draw attention to all of the positives. That's not to say that we let critics get away with lies or untruths, if and when that happens then we go after them.

Mike,

Email me the link of the article and I will get it posted for you.

I just found out one of our bucks made the cover of Nikons latest magazine...funny thing, it was taken with a Cannon.

Also, just learned the NRA will have one our bucks on the front cover of their 2012 Calendar...Scott

At least NRA supports high fence hunting. We have many cover bucks each year as well - all the magazines care about is the picture - not where it was taken.

Unfortunatly you are correct, they operate just like the government, sweet on the outside and nasty lying on the inside, cant believe anything contained within their covers, just my opinion.

If the majority of hunters do not support high fence hunting one must work on changing the perception. Magazines work to sell copies. Over time hunters who purchase that magazine because of that big buck on the cover will not find it in public hunting land. Than the hunter may come to know us. Always take the high road show what it is like at your ranch and never lower yourself to attacking others who have not come to understand or see our ranches.

You all should go to whitetails of Oklahomas website to see the video that Conjo Productions done for WOO. NADeFA also had one done which just has gotten into their hands. Missouri and NYDEFA also had them done with Missouri's being finished up now and NYDEFA has theirs. All the associations could use one. It is posted on WOO's home page. Just click the button and view. By the way I wrote the script and Jolene St. Pierre and I produced it.

Hmmmm. Other than selling magazines they are selling the concept of "what is hunting", do we agree? Aside from this marketing strategy, how are they "DIRECTLY" PROMOTING hunting as far as donated hunts, State and Federal lobbiest, private enterprise (including biologist, scientific research, veterinarians, private habitat improvement ideas) or otherwise hands on? They aren't, can't, and intend not to ever be at the real pulse of the issue..."INDIVIDUAL CHOICE", WHICH IS, BY THE WAY, WHOSE MAGAZINES/ T.V. SHOWS WE WATCH and where/how one hunts. Of common interest, they do entice the underpriviledged majority, yes...majority, to dream of big bucks in the "Land of Oportunity" which has become the "Land of Affordability"...can we not agree?

Tim, thanks for letting us know of that video, it was really good and maybe something like this should be done on a much larger scale to get the word out to the public who look down to deer farms, thanks again
