im in a bind weather im going to switch to purina antler max or sportsmans choice antler max then use whatever brand i decide on use that brand mineral. im leaning more towards the purina unless you guys can give me some suggestions now the problem is purina sells their pellets in a 50 lb bag and their mineral in a 25 lb bag with no information on the ratios so i could use some help with the pellet/mineral/hay ratio???? i have been feeding antlerking/ bail of hay/ mineral block for my 9 deer. let me know what you think but i am trying to switch feed right now so i am open to suggestions im not worried about money with feed i just want the best ratio i can for my deer

As many deer farm's as ther are in Pa you should be able to go to a local feed mill and find a mix that other farm's are feeding and having good luck with. Or go see some of the farm's near you and talk to them about what they feed and why.

the mill would not give me any info i think they are a little dumb in there its just minimum wage people who know nothing about what they are doing

We use Purina Antlermax and are very happy with it. We do not add any mineral to it as it is a complete feed. We do feed alfalfa in addition to the pellet in the winter. We buy our pellet in bulk. The only other thing we add is some corn, maybe 25 percent mixed with the pellet, and we do that ourselves. When we have put mineral blocks in the pens the deer show very little interest in them. We've been feeding Antlermax for about 9 years now and I think our deer speak for themselves.

WILD RIVERS WHITETAILS so you never tried the purina mineral that comes in a 25 lb bag that your supposed to mix with the antler max? do you cut down to the 16 percent in the winter i noticed they have a blend that has corn mixed in for the winter?

I have been feeding Antler-Max for a couple of years. I often mix shelled corn with the Antler-Max at certain times during the year. My deer will always pick out every kernel of corn before they touch the Antler-Max. They always clean up everything.

Smokey do you feed the 20 then 16 in the winter and how much corn do you mix in like 50/50 or what? thanks for the info

We do not cut down to the 16% in the winter. That is when we have the alfalfa in the pens and add some corn. We have never used the mineral and have never been told we should. Have you asked your Purina rep about this?

We put a round bale of alfalfa in the pen for the deer, so they can eat whatever they want. We mix about 25% corn in with the pellet. We use Outback gravity feeders so again they are eating as much as they want. They of course eat a lot less in the winter.

thanks for the information so you give corn all year around or just in the winter from what i heard they need corn in the winter or more corn then what they usually get

I will mix at different level, the corn to Antler-Max ratio, during the year. Most of the time it is 50-50.
