how would this look for a set up?? not sure how many acres there is out here but I just threw this together. I would build 1 pen each year and we have to tare the barn down so all I have for a facility would be the little building on the back of the Quonset and I just looked at that and the roof looks rough. snow must have broke the rafter in it one time but I think it would work for now till I put up a small building where the barn is. let me know what should be changed or what you think. thanks

Before you drive your first post plan the whole thing out for all future pens including the ally and breeding barn. Pens should be about 100x300. So if you build a bigger pen build it so if you divide it at a later time the all pens will be about 100x300. All gates leading to the ally need to be in a the corner. The ally post should be about 12 feet apart so you can cover it with shade cloth and not worry about the wind.

there will be no post in the ground till at least next spring

how would this look? I put gates in the corners and they all go to the middle and meet in the alley then the alley heads to the back of the Quonset where the building is that I will have a Shute. the pens would be bigger than 100x300 I guess but that would give them a little more room

Just my thought is to round off the sharp corner, and along the road to the left - plant two rows of poplar and a row of staggered evergreens going around the corner and down the fence...everybody and their uncle will be stopping along there to look at and spook the deer.

So round all of the corners or just the outside ones?

just the sharpest one,

U mean the top right pen then? Thats just the way it came out on the computer so when it do it for real ill make sure there's not so much of a corner

yes, if something happens to a deer, it is usually in a corner

So does the set up look ok? I was thinking the pen on the bottom left could be the pen they go into after there done in the Shute and when there all in there I can open the alley back up and they can go back into the pen they came out of

Looks good, the more you can put gates between pens the better, dont have to be big gates, small 3 ft ones are good too

im going to make them a little bigger that way I can get the bobcat through if I need to. might need to blow snow around the perimeter some time lol

Ndwhitetails,

I have my handling facility setup so that you chase the deer into the handling facility and when your done they come right back out into the alleyway and run back into the pen they came from.....it works very well and would eliminate a step for you.....just a thought.....the less you have to chase them from pen to pen the better......

When u look at my drawing is there a different way I should have it set up? That's what I would like to do I move them 1 time but didn't know how else to set it up. I'm kinda limited cuz of where the handling facility is located (back of quanset) along the trees.

I wish I was more tech savvy and I could send you a pic of my setup.....maybe I could give you my address and you can google map it and see how it's set up.....do you think?

I already got it Mr. Duffy lol.

Do you see how the wall bends around and comes in the back of my handling facility? On that corner of the handling facility there is a gate on the corner of the building and it works really slick once the deer are in the area where the bend is they have no where to go the gate pushes them right into the handling facility.....the wall is made of cinder blocks and is 12 feet high.........then once they are done I have a door that opens in the front and they are sent straight back down the runway......got the wall design from the Esh's here in PA......wish I could take credit for the idea...LOL......anyhow I love how it works hope it helps you with some ideas.....

Yes I see the wall. Do you put all the deer in your facility all at once or what happens when your done and u let the deer out the side door and he gets back in the line. How do you keep track to make sure they go back to the pen and not get mixed up with the others that are standing in line waiting to get in the chute.? Or do I have it all wrong lol
