I'm new to this site and looking to get into the breeding business, someone please slap me and tell me to run the other way.

I have been reading a lot of great information but one big question I have and haven't seen anyone talk about is pen size and number of deer per pen, can some please help me out. My plan is to start out small, 5 acres at most, how many and how big would you suggest I make my pens and how many deer could each pen hold. I'm thinking of starting out with breed doe for my first year (hoping to them next spring) as to stay away from buying any bucks.

Any and all thought are welcome, Please and Thank you in advance.

Yes run as fast as you can!!! Anyway our state tells us how many we can have as per the size of the pen. You have LOADS of farms down there and borders....Well your best bet would be to hook up with someone down there any visit some places. Also speak to all the state people for info on pen size, deer numbers, ect, ect!! Good Luck!!

I have more in a pen now than I want, I need to build more pen's to get room. But I would like to keep around 8-10 per acre. I dont have any trouble when grass is growing through the summer with alot more per acre than the 10, I have to keep it mowed then. But in the winter with all of the rain we get and as warm as it has been this year I am getting a lot of bare ground from the hoof traffic on the wet ground / mud.

We are located in Godley Tx not far from Ft. Worth. Be glad to show you our set up. The comment of 10 deer per acre sounds good to me. You will need several pens and after a few years you will want to ad more.
