Hi everyone. I just joined the forum today and posted about our little fawn with a neck injury. I'm not sure if I'm doing this wrong, because I'm terrible on computers. If somebody has read it I could really use some advice. I'm thinking of putting her down at this point....but my kids are going to be devastated. I don't want her suffering, but also don't want to give up if there is hope for her recovery

Derek........I have only had experience with one deer (Thank God) with this issue.....she was an older deer and when being off loaded from a trailer ran into the side of it and literally had a kinked neck.....she could still walk but not very well........anyhow, I wish I had good news to tell you....she did not survive and I do think she suffered....God forbid it ever happens to me again....but of it does I will definitely probably put the animal down.......now all of this being said, I do not know if your fawn has the same damage to it's neck that my doe had.........I know it is frustrating.....sometimes we need to go with what our heart says and do what is best for the animal........I know this was not much help and I wish you the best with what ever happens......

depending how much its worth you you id get a vet out to look at it and maybe you can get a chiropractor there to do some adjustments on it. ive seen it done before and it can do wonders.

Call Mark Sipes. He had a fawn back in 2008 with a crooked neck, kept her going and she is still going now. He could give you some pointers. Mark- 717-860-7171

Derik - I personaly have never experienced what you are with your fawn... but it sounds like some people have seen something similar to what you are experiencing, and have see some positve results through treatment.

If the deer's appetite is strong, and she's otherwise acting normal...acting pert, licking on you as you stated, etc....it sure doesn't sound to me like she's suffering...or at least not to a measure yet of not continuing to seek help/a remedy for her, not only just for the kids sake but of course for the deer itself.

Prayer couldn't hurt at this time...:)

Thanks randy! I gave him a call....what a great guy!! He was very helpful and said that we are on the right track with our game plan. He speaks if you highly as well. I was asking if it's possible to introduce good genetics into my herd here in Ontario....and he said you may be very useful in that venture.

Sure might be able to give you some direction. Give us a call (evening usually best) 306-276-2144 in Saskatchewan.

Awesome! Ill give you a shout in the next few nights! I hear you have a magazine out?? How would I subscribe to it?

Hi Derek,

We publish Deer Tracking Magazine 4 times a year with the seasons. Presently working on the big Fall issue. We have been publishing for 14 years and try to include topics of interest to the deer industry. It began as a way of networking and sharing information with other deer farmers. It has grown into more of an educational resource as we discuss issues in the industry, health, marketing, antlers, breeding strategies, etc.

To subscribe, you just pick a 1, 2 or 3 yr subscription...Send cheque $26, $47, or $65 (depending on choice of subscription).

Just make sure you include a note with the address you would like your magazine shipped to. This fall issue will be in the mail Sept 1st. To make the mailing list your address will need to be entered by Aug 27.

Hope that helps,

Sorry about your fawn , I had 1 do that last year. I put her in the barn , leaned her against a straw bale gave her banamine for the pain and dextamethasone , I then used a horse ointment on the neck and rubbed it everyday until I got the neck to straighten back. She now walks a little funny but I never gave up on her and you have to be willing to put the time in.

Had a dog impact a car ,bent his neck right over . Took him to our osteopath . He looked at a diagram of a dogs skeletal.and gave a good yank and straightened it right out. After that a couple times it would go back out from rag fighting ,and we would just tweek it back ,it would snap back in and be good to go.

Why rag fight with a dog that has a bad neck???? not sure i understand that one....might need to spell it out for me Dear john.......

The point I was making was the neck can be tweaked over 90 degrees and be tweaked back with effort . How many deer are put down without trying this.
