Our weather here in Indiana has been crazy, hot cold wet etc. I've had 3 doe fawns very "wet" looking, matted, and foaming from the mouth, to me those are signs of pnuemonia. I used 2cc of Tetradure (or LA 300 Pro from my vet) and it's been AMAZING!

Within 24 hours they've been all back to normal, acting and eating great.

my questions are:

1) Are these signs of pnuemonia or am I treating something else?

2) Why do the sick deer get soooo wet and matted looking? Are they trying to just groom themselves and the foamy mouth is doing it?

Thanks guys and gals!

Todd, I would not be afraid to do a follow up treatment in a couple days just to be sure what ever it is they got!

Just my 2 cents

It doesn't look anything like the EHD symptoms I've seen or heard of. A followup treatment is definately in order!

It was just that someone had asked me those 2 questions, and I guess my answer was just what I do to fix it and really didn't have any concrete proof that I was correct or not.

Thanks everybody!

If it was a respiratory infection or related issue, I know that DVMs also use Baytril for pneumonia. But for what its worth, I think you were right to use the Tetradure too.

I wonder what the best first-line antibiotic is in pneumonia-type issues?

Did the deer have mucus or any fluids coming out of the nose? Any coughing at all? Decreased appetite?

Lanasvet,

Only one had mucus snot coming out of her nose, the other's were just foaming at the mouth, none of them were coughing, but all of them were seperating themselves and hanging out in their huts. Which my deer NEVER go in their huts unless it's pounding down rain, or bitter cold out.

Did a follow up shot of the same and everybody is back to normal, looks great acting great and eating well!
