Possible jaw fracture

I had a dog get around my fawn pen and one of my fawns went nuts and now has no hair on her face and her lower lip is very swollen but it looks like the jaw is where it is supposed to be. She has what looks like the beginning of an infection just below her front teeth where the lip and gums connect. She is 9 weeks old and still has a great appetite and sucks on the bottle with a lot of force just like nothing is wrong. The infection is what worries me. I was wondering if any one might have any suggestions on what i should do. Any help is greatly appreciated!

Thanks

I prefer to use Penicilin G for this type of infection and would use banamine for the pain and swelling. What Mr. Lloyd suggested would also work. I just like to save my Draxxin for resporitory issues. Good luck and keep us posted. Pictures always help in cases such as this.

Clean the area good. Then apply topically a wash of LA-200 directly onto the area of the guns that is infected. Many times oral infections are hard to clear up with injected antibiotics and direct application of the antibiotic to the infected area does work. Don't worry, it won't hurt them a bit to get a little down the hatch. You could also wipe for several days with a Q-tip coated in 7% tincture of Iodine. Iodine is often given orally as a diarreha supresent so it will not hurt them either.

Are you sure the infected gums were'nt there before the trauma? If the gums are infected and the teeth get loose and come out I would lean towards lack of phosphorous! ZZ
