The most "cost effective" way to increase protein is use a non protien nitrogen like urea, but be very careful.

I make a pure on that is loaded with fat and minerals for deer. One cup per 50# of feed. Give me a call if your interested 918-424-5293. Thanks Tom

Also deer can only process 14% protein so anything higher then that is a waste and can cause other problems.

I'm no feed expert...but why do all the big companies make all their deer feed with more than 14% then? Just wondering...not trying to question you.

Same here. Never seen any studies on that one. 14% would be a winter feed for us and much higher in the summer!

They are made that way for all of the graze that is low in protein. This may not apply to some farmers where there is little or no graze. HOwever, a wild deer will eat alot of other things besides just the feed that may be say 18% protein.

Makes sense.

A great deal of the protein can be converted (lost as protein) in the rumen before it reaches the true stomach. Hence why a "bypass protein" or a "non protein nitrogen" can be a lot more cost effective if used wisely.

I estimate that one kilo of urea provides more protein at the true stomach than 900kgs of grain when fed correctly. The grain of course provides lots of energy & nutrients though.
