any opinions on the effect of pulling all fawns from first time mothers? i know the doe would be in better condition for fall breeding , but does it effect her mothering ability as fas as future fawning? thanks  tom l

Tom, I have almost always pulled fawns from first time moms with no ill effects on their ability to mother future fawns. I pull them because I have not had the best of luck with 1st time moms knowing HOW to mother ;)

Wayne very true. Usually when I have a bad mother, it's a first time mother. Sometimes they don't know to clean rear ends, sometimes they only care for one of the twins, and sometimes they seem to have no interest in even cleaning off the fawns. I have never had a bad mother over 2 years old. It's always just the occasional first timer. Then by their second set, for the most part, they all seem to be polar opposite, they love their babies and do great.

okay, thanks. i'll probably pull all the fawns from my 2 yr olds then. at least the ai sired ones.
