i am just starting and getting my first few deer in september. i am thinking i am going to go with the purina pellets but just wanted to know what your guys thoughts are on this pellet whether it be positive or negative. i was also trying to find some prices on it too, thanks chris

We used purina when we started, but now use Max Rax. We are happier with this feed. The Max Rax cost us $9.25 a bag. In Florida the Purina cost us $11.25 a bag and in Kentucky our neighbor uses Purina. He said it costs him $14.00 a bag by the truck load and $16.00 a bag for less than a truck load. Where are you located?

It's the best there is if you believe the salesman. They were claiming that it would add an inch per point if you switched to their's...don't know how you know if you get an extra inch. But it was more money than our custom pellets and I think that it didn't come in bulk..not sure on that tho. I decided to stick with what I have been using.

I tried to get a price on Purina last year and never got a reply. I ended up going with Raxmax in January, and I have the best looking deer I have ever had. The Raxmax here is $8.75 for the 16% and $9.50 for the 20%. Good luck with your deer. Always glad to see someone new getting started. Once you get started it becomes a obsession quickly.

We use Purina Antlermax and are very happy with it. We buy in bulk - getting 10 tons at a time. It is expensive - but cutting corners on feed isn't the way to get the best deer.

When I started deer farming 10 years ago, I used Purina deer chow antler max. I didn't know any better, and my deer did good. I met a deer famer who turned me on to his custom mix. My deer have done much better. The past few months I was contemplating mixing some deer chow in with my mix to stretch the feed and give the deer a little more bulk. I have now reconsidered and regret thinking of the idea.

My custom feed is about 17.00 a hundred pound. I had my local feed store order some deer chow for me. I didn't ask the price first and now I am sorry. the deer chow was 17.00 for 50 pounds. I was floored.

My opinion, use a custom mix or prebagged mix and stay away from deer chow. Your deer will do better, and other mixes will probably be fresher than the deer chow. Deer chow is sometimes months old when it finally reaches your local dealer.

There are alot of good feeds available. I have been formulating deer feeds for 15 yrs. Max Rax sounds like a good choice in your area not knowing all of your options. If you were in north central Texas I would recommend Performance Feeds LLC. Make sure your feed is balanced.

alright thanks guys for all the posts, i live in minnesota. keep them coming, lots of good info for a rookie. chris

I use Massive Rack deer feed from Bio-tec it is a round $10 for 50lb bag and has done wonders for my herd.

You can look them up on line even if there is not a mill close to you they will do anything they can to help you get what you need for you herd.
