Question for Texas Deer farmers.

I read in another thread about cutting your herd size down to help the deer market in these tough times. My question is, what do you do with them? Can you just have them butchered by state regs? I know you can only have 4 deaths before you have to have them "tested" for CWD. Is that unexplained deaths? Do you have to have them tested if you "downsize" your herd by having them butchered?

hi there,

You can release them, i think. You can sell really cheap. In fact, prices are really high in texas right now. If you your scientific breeders permit, you own the deer and can pretty much do what you like... Just have to hunt within regs. I don't know of any farmers that are releasing deer or killing them just to help the market.

I am out near menard, and constantly looking for good deals. But, we have to move deer in the next week to be legal... PM me if you wish.
