Question on milk replacer

I would like some feedback from anyone ,on the use of medicated milk replacer. Another deerfarmer brought it to my attention that it might not be good to continuously use this product, but wasn't sure. The medicated part is for the prevention of coccidiosis. Thanks in advance, Eldon

We are feeding ADM milk replacer this year and it has Deccox-M mixed in it to help with coccidia.

We had terrible problems with coccidia last year and lost alot of buck fawns out on the does.....I lost one bottlefed doe fawn to it. I guess, I'm hoping to stay ahead of the game with my bottlefeds by using it. We also started our does on Bovatec this spring in the feed and are doing maintenance treatments with sulfa liquid in the water.

I used Fox Valley last year and have used it for the past few years with no problems at all but I liked the idea of the help with coccidia everyday. I know where you are getting at though, with the chance that your fawns could become resistant to it and then what do you do????

Applecreek Whitetails used ADM last year for all their fawns. I was over there in April and their fawns from last year looked great. Very big and healthy. Maybe Scott or someone else could voice their opinion on it.

I use Lonestar calf replacer. It is a medicated replacer and for the past 4 years, it is all I have used from birth to weaning. I have not had any problems from the medication, and no coccidia either.

Susan,

We are on our second year of ADM. We work very hard like everyone else and try to be open on improving every day. We have 50 on bottle and use Target products. When I think it is too hard I tour Last years bottle fawns. ADM has outstanding service and has helped us grow.

Thanks every body, for your input on medicated milk replacer. I am going to weigh some fawns tomorrow afternoon, and I will share the results just for fun.

These fawns have done well on this medicated kid goat replacer! At 21 days old thru 30 days old , the weights are 18 thru 21 lbs. Its just my opinion, but I feel they are right on track and I am staying with the replacer. Thanks, Eldon

Eldon, you are absolutely right if the fawns are healthy and happy stay with what your using.......like they say....."If it aint broke, don't fix it":D
