I am tired of the price of buying red cap milk for feeding fawns so I am looking to get a dairy cow for this fawning season and because I have 5 kids that love milk, but anyways is there any rules with using the milk right out of the cow or do i need to heat it or what? any info would be appreciated

I know with elk, cow's milk is a bad thing- we use goats, build a little stand and let them nurse or buy the goats milk or goats milk replacer is what we've done, but that's with a calf here and there not several each year... good luck!

Be as sanitary as possible when milking. Make sure u properly clean the teats before you milk. Also make sure the udder is clean. Milk on ice. If you follow these procedures you should do just fine.

You can buy a cheap pasturizer look on ebay or craigs list. Pasturizing milk first is alot safer but thats up to you.

With the cost of a good milk cow and the feed that she will eat I am not sure that it will be a cheaper way to get milk. I would check with a local dairy to see if they will sell you the raw milk before I bought a cow.

Look up Johne's disease. My research shows it’s very prevalent in most dairy herd and it kills ruminants.

Has anyone ever used powdered whole milk? Just thinking out loud. It would be a whole lot easier storing 50 pound bags of powdered milk that gallon jugs.

Not on deer but my kids love it and I have used it to feed wild baby rabbits

and I used it with on a baby lamb with with the goat powder supplement

Todd I always wanted t know if anybody used it to0, I think it would speed up the heating time on milk ( we use red cap)

We are thinking of trying Raw Milk from a local farm this year. It's a farm where they are tested on a regular basis and they can sell raw milk directly to the public for human consumption. We're planning on mixing it with Milk Replacer.

Ive been doin a little research and there is plenty of johnnes tested cows to buy from. might give it a try
