RED CAP Milk? Lots of questions!

I talk to many people in the industry. Being in the Whitetail Breeding and Auction business and many of my friends and customers are asking what is the formula for feeding RED CAP milk? I think it would be nice to make this as easy and simple as possible for anyone wanting to start using RED CAP milk to follow. Please post how you feed RED CAP Milk, Times, rate, and so forth. I think this debate will be one that many breeders would try, and some may try it just on a couple of fawns for the first year. I am doing it this year and I feel that if it works it could be a great way to show others how effective it is and that the fawns can do just as well on the RED CAP as the others brands. The cost factor alone may make it possible for some of the smaller farms to stay in business, and help turn a profit.

If you go straight to the dairy and get their milk that will expire soon you may save some money...But I don't think going to the store and buying it you will save...

I think it cost me more...

BUT...I FEEL they were so much healthier,a lot bigger and it is so easy...

When you feed a fawn mix...I don't feel that their body handles it well they bloat...and act tired and full after only a few ounces after feeding red cap...(I will list a full in detail instruction of what I did that worked for me...)you feed them as much as they can take(to a point)one fawn I had to limit cause I could tell she wasn't hungry...but the other take 2-3 x more milk then you would give formula and than they play and act healthy...It was the first year I tried it It is the first year I never lost a bottle baby...It is easier to call me and I can tell you my experiences if you need help...but I will list how I did it soon...I just have to type it up.

Here ie what we do

Feed 3 times a day for 10 weeks never exceed 14-16 oz per feeding

Feed 2 times a day for 1 week

feed 1 time a day for 1 week

Weaned

Use red cap milk and ad 1/2 cup of LOL doe match or kid replacer from start to finish

keep dirt and grass in stall from 3 days old on

Start on grain week 2

start on alfalfa hay week 4

This is what we did in 2009 and when we did our AI a couple farmers that helped commented that our fawns were the best looking they have seen anywhere and these guys get around to allot of farms. I was very proud to have someone make these kind of comments to a guy that has not been doing this for very long, our bottle feds are actually bigger than the mother raised, this worked even better than previous years when we used raw goats milk.

If anyone is interested i can supply a document with a feeding schedule starting from week 1 to week 12. Do not want to sway anyone to change but just responding to this request

going to the store and buying fresh milk will save allot over raw goats milk that costs anywhere from 4-10 dollars a gallon not to mention the convience.

None of the cost savings and convience matters if you do not produce an equal or better product, which I believe we did....

Rick, please send me a detailed schedule. I talk to a lot of people as you know and would like to have a copy on hand as I will feed RED CAP Milk this year and know a lot of others that are going to try it as well. If you could please send me a copy to [email protected] and I will post it here for everyone as well.

Thanks

Eric Pinkston

Rick,

I also would like your information on the use of red cap milk. Maybe it would just be easier to post it here on this thread. Thank you. [email protected]

document has just been sent to each of you, I would probably prefer to not post it on a public site??? but am willing to share with any deer farmer that would request a copy, you may also modify to suit yourself if you like and share with who ever you like.
