Anyone have any luck fixing ripped out ears?? Wouldn't mind hearing about any not so successful attempts. I have a couple that i've just got to try something to fix them.

Thanks Wade

W&W, I tried a couple of fawns with superglue. One worked great the other didn't take. That has been my only attempts. However, a plastic surgeon could make a nice living repairing some ears around here on the older does...lol

W&W

We feel your pain. Our first fawn last year ripped out the RFID tag (wish we could microchip) anyways she ripped it from hole to tip.

We converted the island into a surgical table. Cleaned the wound superglued the cartilage and used a regular stapler to hold the hide back together.

Took the staples out when we moved her to the large encosure. Half the skin grew back together. She holds it up nice and even. You can only tell it when you are close.

If the rip if fresh I would trim enough cartilage to connect the skin superglue then suture back the skin what you have to work with.

If the rip is healed you have the extra skin to work with. What I would do is on one side of the tear cut the skin on the backside of the ear on the other side of the tear cut the front side that way the skin will overlap the cartilage. Superglue the cartilage then suture the skin back together.

I am sure others have done something different and hope they will post what they have done.

Good luck,

We have 100 percent by doing nothing. They are just hard to sell with a ripped ear. I tried to suture with dental floss with no sucess, like wise with glue. The smaller the tag the better. We are using 1/2 x 2 lamb tags this year with good luck so far.
