When going out with one of my brothers to round up a group of does for TB Testing on Sept. 22, the first deer we saw was this little fawn. She is out of a Rolex son (Lex (172"@2) and a High Roller daughter. I have been checking periodically for this fawn given the mother (White 73) was a very big fawn last year. She was exposed to Lex and i was surprsed to not find a fawn out of her by Aug. I quit looking after Sept 1 and figured she just didn't breed. but to my surprise, September Surprise was born. As best as I can could tell she was about 4 to 6 days old. She is being bottle fed right now and doing great. Just thought I would share.

Sorry , Forgot to attatch the pic. This is September Surprise with my 4 yr. old son Kaden.

Pretty cute Tom.......i must say i'm glad shes your problem and not mine....I'm sooooo done with bottle feeding.......but she is still as cute as ever......thanks for sharing....good luck with her!!

We also had a bottle baby in September from a bottle baby from last year but elected to leave it on the mom as it was a buck. Like Dennis I'm very done with bottle feeding for this year. We brought the pair from a pen a mile away, we carried the fawn and the mom followed. We were very lucky she was a bottle baby and had trust in us. She and fawn are in a pen with a pond and some great cover which they will need in this coming up Montana winter. I just figured she would not be allowed to get bred this season.

TOM, Congrats on your new arrival this last week. A few years ago I witnessed two buck fawns born on Sept. They were weaned early in November (so their mother could be bred) and made it through the MN winter. The next year they were behind all the other yearlings and were sold to Pierce Whitetails in WI. Those bucks are Dakota and Lakota and took a huge leap from one to two like many deer out of Avalanche do.

I am sure that Surprise fawn will be the tamest deer on your farm next summer. She looks like she is a good size one already. JOE

Yeah, the only reason I decided to bottle feed this one was because her mother will be in my AI program this fall . She is good sized due to being a single fawn. I am alittle concerned about having her outside for the winter--maybe it will be fine. If I have to take her in on certain days due to the weather I have a warm shop for her

If she would have been born on September 1st like those two bucks you could have probably left her with mother. I think you did the right thing pulling her. I know of somebody that had a young doe get bred in the summer and she had her fawns in Feb. Both fawns were pulled and bottle-fed and made it. One of those fawns is the grand-dam and great grand-dam now of some pretty famous deer. You never know where that diamond in the rough is going to come from. JOE

We had a Doe fawn born on 9/25/09 at 4pm. We pulled her at 7pm the next day to bottle feed. She is doing great. This is the first one we have bottle fed. We are going to keep her in the house and garage for the first couple weeks. I had her mom (a big bodied 10yr old)with a button buck last fall.

Here is a picture with mom at one hour old.

Here is a picture with my daughter Hailey and granddaughter Anna. They are really loving the whole bottle feeding experience.
