I am from South Texas and have extremely sandy soil in my deer pens. This makes it extremely hard to keep a water trough even.

I plan on pouring concrete slabs for all the troughs to sit on and therefore stay level and not run over after being cleaned. I would also like to build a structure for shade around each one.

My question is for those of you who have shade structures, what do you recommend building? A pipe frame with tin on top? Angle the tin or not? A back wall of tin or not? How tall should I build it?

If anybody has any designs for an efficient structure that would be ideal.

Thanks guys.

I use the metal carports. That way you can move them if you need too and they are cheap

We have a metal carport that we cut in half so it could actually be used for 2 shelters and then we have 2 in other pens built with pipe, c purlin & tin on the top.

How do you keep your carports portable and keep them from blowing over or away? I need to get a couple and I would like to be able to move them periodically but am afraid I can't keep them from blowing away.

Ours unfortunately aren't portable. We had to set poles and concrete them in. Since the wind likes to blow here in Oklahoma we couldn't leave them unanchored. But I would too like to know how they keep them from blowing over and such.

They come with metal stakes. You can pull them out and move..very easy to deal with..I am about to get a few more
