I have a doe fawn that is about 10 days old the first day or so I noticed that the fawn was pooping on it self when moma wasn't around and she was getting a few flys on her so I brought her in the house and cleaned her up. I did not start her on the bottle instead I took her out to her mom a couple times a day mom would feed and clean her after two days I left her with mom. Until yesterday I thought she was doing good but when I checked on her she could not walk she would stand up but then when she tried to walk she would fall over so I brought her back in the house and started her on the bottle she will eat a little each time I feed but is very week but I can't get her to poop or pee ( Any Idea's?) I have been giving Fawn Paste she also had a little bit of a fever so I gave her some Banamine, and some Vit. B.

Thanks for the help

Randy - she may be dehydrated and need more fluids than she is ingesting. Run some fluids to her sub-q, but make sure they are about 100 degrees so that you don't throw her into shock. The fever is likely due to the dehydration.

Try 5 ml dextrose orally morning and night and about 200 ml or so of warm fluids. Should give her extra energy until she can get going on her own unless she catches something. Good luck!

Robbie,

I did give her fluids sub-q at about 9:30am and I was going to give them again tonight. Her fever is gone and she did poop a little today but she is so week she cant even hold up her head. Not sure if it is do to the fluids or not but since I gave the fluids one of her eyes is swollen and red around the bottom of the eye.

Thanks Again

Randy - sounds like she doesn't have much of an immune system. Keep going with the fluids. Do you have any of the Target Fawn Energy Pack? If you don't , and you don't have dextrose, you can use a little Karo syrup to give her a quick energy boost/sugar high. I would start some antibiotics, probably penicillan, 2cc sub cu for several days, along with the fluids and paste.
