Reading this "news story" (I use the words news story in gest) makes me laugh. PA must think they have invented the wheel or something. My God folks, take a hint from all the other states that have tested for and "discovered " CWD. For us who have been there and done that and have the T-shirt reading the article is like watching the movie Ground Hog Day!

Why don't you guys save the time and realize that,

1. CWD is everywhere.

2. You can not get rid of it.

3. It is not passed on to humans.

4. It will not wipeout the deer population of your state.

5. The only negative impact on hunter numbers is caused by the hysteria put out by the media.

Come on folks! Stop showing that Dolphins really are smarter than humans!

Your are spot on Roger! I don't know why people can't understand and accept your list. In the free ranging herd, there is absolutely NOTHING anyone can do. We just need to take the advice of Dr. Kroll (Dr. Deer) and believe in the whitetail deer's ability to adapt. It really is the only plan we have! It will handle CWD FAR better than we do. I wish the media would take the "always fatal" statement and shove it right up their ass!!! When I question the MDC people about it they are quick to say that when it advances to the "symptomatic stages" that its always fatal. Daaah! Did you know that if your heart stops beating its always fatal!

When all the top State Veterinarians met at the USHA regional meeting last Summer in August I visited with them and what you said above is almost EXACTLY what they said. Its a non-issue to them and they are simply managing the politics not the disease. The only change I would make to your list is that with number 2 I would add that you CANNOT  control it or get rid of it in FREE RANGING populations. I am always quick to point out that we do take care of it in captivity. For example, currently there is NO CWD in captive whitetails in MO but there is in the free ranging herd and there will continue to be. The only risk it really poses is to OUR INDUSTRY! AND its totally spread and maintained in the FREE RANGING HERD!

Here is an interesting little fact that the MDC doesn't tell you. They had their first positive in Cole County (thats where the capital is), guess how many they tested? The answer is 5? WOW! Now thats some good sampling! I'm sure with their "eradication plan" in the CWD zone (all the available tags they offered and hunters coming from all over and taking carcasses back home) that carcasses and CWD went all over the state un-checked. Here is another interesting fact. On one farm on Macon county (the CWD "zone", we know of a hunter who has turned in 2 different CWD positives in 2 different years. Yet no one has talked to him or done ANYTHING other than inform him of the positives and ask what he did with the carcasses. In all the CWD positive cases they don't even state what happened to the heads! The way these agencies handle CWD is really quite a joke. We could all list example after example of idiotic sampling and management yet they claim they have expertise. The only expertise is in the Department oF Ag's and they know nothing can be done in the free ranging herd.....Roger please don't get me started.......LOL I can't start they day all pissed off!
