In the industry, I hear very little of Symetry playing much of a role in the value of a buck. How much does symetry really play a role?

My coming three year old had an incredible unofficial score symetry as a 2 year old. Now he was not pushing the high number value as most other 2 year old 10 pointers 136 with a broken mail beam, but I love what I was seeing. As a yearling he was small 7 point still symetrical. Between yearling and 2 yrs he increased size by 80 inches. So it will be interesting to see him grow out.

I used him last year as a backup to only 1 doe. Received twin buck fawns so I will get to see how his symetry will play a role as they grow this year.

This year I used him on 2 does.

1 a Thunderton doe to widen her genetics out but hopefully keep her mass.

1 a Challenger doe to remove some of the extras that is on her side. To aquire a main frame look with very few extras.

Might I add if any of these 2 does have doe fawns we are thinking of selling them if anyone is interested.

Again back to the original statement how much is this bucks true value worth as symetry plays a major role in his appearance?

Thanks for your time.

Jeff,

Symmetry is VERY important to me as a hunting preserve owner. When people ask what traits I look for as far as a hunting preserve owner I tell them I like a variety of looks and usually have a hunter for all of them. I like the tall racks, the wide rack, the pretty typicals, the garbage high scoring non-typicals, the massive bucks, the drop tines, the flyers.....I like them all and usually have hunters for all of them.....but....and its a big but... the one thing that is hard to sell is the lopsided antlers.

They stick out like a sore thumb and ALWAYS have to be severely discounted to sell. Sometimes as much as 50%.

Of course the reasons for "un-even" or " non symmetrical" antlers can be a variety of things but if I think its genetic, I will usually stay away from that deer as a breeder for me.

Of course that's just my opinion and of course my choice. :):):)
