Taking a break!

My wife and I are going to take a short break from deer farming until we get moved and our daughter’s health is under control. We have given our deer all good homes until we start back up. We still have a couple of stockers that will be for sale this next year. We kept MDF Hank for ourselves since we couldn’t get him sold. We only got two calls on him and the one guy laughed at us when I told him I would like 5k for our buck. He didn’t counter offer, he just laughed and got off the phone. To him I would say I’m sorry I was only wanting to pay for my daughters medical bills, and I’ll never forget you and how you treated me on the phone that day. I only can hope that if we are ever fortunate enough to grow to become a big deer farmer we never treat people like that. Anyways we are getting him mounted so we always have our first sire. He weighed in at 286 Lbs, scored over 220” with just under 50” of mass, 21 points, and 21” inside spread. I for one always went off the rule of thumb that a deer’s ear tip to ear tip spread was around 16” and used this to judge their inside spread. But Hank’s ear tip to ear tip spread was 21”, so I found that interesting. Anyways we would just like to thank everyone for their help and knowledge and we plan to stay informed on what is going on in the industry and keeping up with our Nadefa membership and going to the sales. We wish all of you a merry Christmas, and happy holidays.

Kyle,

Have a Merry Christmas with your family! We'll be praying for your daughter's health, for your family, and that God would provide everything you need!

God Bless!

First of all thank you to all for the thoughts and prayers. We felt we should explain the reason for our post isn’t for anyone to feel sorry for us, but to explain to our friends in the deer farming community why you wont be hearing much from us for a while. And i hope that i don't affend anyone with this because i'm always affraid that my word choise isn't correct. About our daughter, she is doing great with her meds. She is on blood pressure meds for her Kidney disease and it is working great. Her Epilepsy meds are working well; she hasn’t been having seizures like she was. Her Lupus meds seem to be working well too. It is just hard as a parent to see your 7 year old daughter taking more meds than an older adult. She has been a sport about this whole thing. Between December and January she has 9 different doctor visits. Some are with specialist and some are at Riley’s Children Hospital. At this point they are all maintenance visits to make sure the meds are working. Financially we are doing just fine; it is just that we can’t afford to move right now to continue with the farming. While words can’t express our gratitude for all of your offers, we just need to be patient and work on God’s time table not ours. I feel very blessed to have a job with good insurance right now so it takes some of the sting off all the doctor visits and the couple of surgeries that she has had. To those of you whom have offered up deer when we get going down the road, thank you from the bottom of our hearts for your kindness, but that shouldn't be needed. We bred a couple of does to MDF Hank and gave them back to the guy we bought them from, he gets to keep the fawns in return for holding them for us for two years. If we end up not getting back into deer farming he can sell them and keep all the money. We gave our top does to ER Whitetails; he is a good friend of mine and located just down the road about 5 minutes away. (I didn't even know him until we became deer farmers. He started the same year we did. Now we work at the same place too. It is funny how small the world is.) But these does couldn't be a better fit to his already great breeding program so it is a win, win for both of us. He gets to use them free and clear until we get started again and we will either get those does back or get a couple of offspring out them. He is also holding our bucks for us until we get them sold. We have it worked out so it is in both our best interest. I will still mix his feed for him, and furnish feed for my bucks that are on his farm. Plus we will continue to vet our animals. I wanted to make sure that it wouldn’t cost him anything other than a little more time while doing chores. Plus the same goes to him; he can sell them and keep the money for his time if we don’t get back into deer farming, although he just told me yesterday that they would be on his farm till they die of old age. Thank you to all of you for your prayers while we see what is in store for us in the next year or so. I just thought that I should explain the situation a little bit better. We can’t say thank you enough.

Happy Holidays
