does anyone know of wormer that will get rid of tapeworms too? i know ivomec wont get rid of them and havent found any wormer yet that will

We used 5x the recommended dose of Safe Gaurd for a couple does we suspected had tape worms. They cleared right up and started putting weight back on.

Synantic Bovine 22.5% wormer is very good also

to whitetail sanctuary.. if they have worms do they leave a mucus after pooping? or what could that be from?

Ben - I've just read the label on my Panacur, and as jeffreylee had suggested, Panacur is suppose to get rid of tapeworms.

I know that it comes in powder as well as liquid.

so do you mix it water or top dress feed ???? what do i look for in my deer for tape wormes ///

crocket - With the powder, I've always top dressed the feed, which is one big pain trying to make sure every one got their dose. Ya got to give just enough feed of course to where they will eat it all up at one ''go of it'', or else the dose just gets further out of your control.

The liquid I've used on fawns and I don't know why you couldn't use it on a tame adult doe by simply syringing it into their mouth...did I say ''simply''? Is anything ever simple with these guys?!

The liquid Panacur that I have is 100mg/ml and the dose for the removal of tapeworm in beef cattle is 4.6 ml per 100 lb.

So, the dose really isn't too awful big to give to a tame doe via syringe if ya had/wanted to.

As far as I know crocket, I don't think there is any particular sign for tapeworms as opposed for any other worm...just take a fecal in and have the vet check it out.

so mark do you just do it as a maimt, thing every 3 mo, ?????

Actually crockett, I acquired this liquid Panacur I have here for the fawns. I've not actually used it on adults for years.

I typically used Ivomec and wormed them twice a year, and I can't remember the last time a fecal came back positive, but it's been 4, 5 maybe more years since we've had a worm here.

I think if Panacur is what you plan on using crockett, 2 or 3 times a year should be often enough, but periodically take a fecal in in-between those treatments to make sure you don't have to worm more often.

Best for you to stay ahead of them, instead of them ahead of you!

Hope you're well crockett.

safeguard is made with panacure ,it will kill tapeworms and some other internal parasites but not the other worms that hurt them thats were the ivomec plus comes in i switch them every 3 months

I've used a dog and cat injectable tape wormer for years on very good animals that I wanted quick results on. The product name is Praziquantel made by TEVA. I've had no problem with the use of this product.. I had tape worms in the kids in the picture on my name information. Tape worms adults were gone after one dose with a follow up a few weeks later.

Then to make sure the herd was clean I top dressed with Panacure twice.

I've had tape worm twice in thirty years and have no idea where or how this pen was infected. I'm told mice carry them.

I read the labels on safe guard and ivomec and neither said they would get rid of tapeworms. My vet said the same thing. We werent actually looking for tapeworms when we took in a fecal sample... but ended up finding some eggs. Vet said tapeworms wont kill anything and theres not really any way of telling you have them other than under a microscope.

I found my tapeworm problem when we were looking at the poop. It had segments of the tape worm in it. They looked like grains of rice. I understand this is one of the ways how they spread from animal to animal as these things hatch and move into another animal. That is what I saw the first time we had tape worms from an animal we bought from a zoo. We wormed with dog injectable wormer and we got 40 inch tape worms out of that animal which filled a big coffee can half full. It was gross to say the least.

Wow!!! That's awesome that you were able to clean up that animal and that you are so diligent in examining pellets. I do the same thing when I clean the pens each wkds. Pens are cleaned fully for all poops daily at the farm where my deer Rosa is, but few people actually take the time to think about what they are cleaning up. I always examine the pellets- they laugh at me!!! hehehe.

My family all have animals of some kind. Everyone looks at the dropping of the animals on a daily bases and the family saying is the health of the animal is in the looks of the droppings. Some of my kids say were the only people in the world that takes interest in the droppings and it is a family joke but quite true.

lol - My family can so relate with this Jack.

A typical saying around our fawn pen during feeding time that is always reveled in to the point of making us VERY HAPPY is......''That's some good looking poop right there!''

Guess one could say ''Happiness is...good looking poop.'' :)

What we used was Valbazen. (google search) It is designed for tape worms. (sheep & cattle) Panacure is also. But is to be given in treatments (2 to 3 times) Dosage for valbazen is 1cc per 40lbs body wieght to be given orally. Checking samples rarely shows signs of a tape worm. Pot belly and wieght loss is what we look for. Same in fawns but not so much wieght loss in them as just not putting the wieght on. Hope this helps. But as always....Just What Works For Us Here!
