So we ai our does and they all drop early and we have a 60% success ratio. not bad for cervical ai i think. Our ai due date was May 17. The does had fawns on the 12th, 14 th, and 16th. So we wait for the couple that would come a week late and NOTHING..so ok..cool...we hit 60% ai...hi fives..NOW we wait for back up to drop..and wait...and wait...AND WAIT. NO backup have dropped...Sooooo our only guess...sterile back up buck. now i know they can come in later blah blah blah..BUT...ALL OF THEM??? NONE of them even remotely look pregnant lol...so our luck continues lol all we can do is laugh anymore. this has been one hell of a bumpy road in Ohio

We about did or fist year to but he died of capture myopathy, luckily.nuts the size of peanuts. Whew , sometimes bad luck is good luck

I live bred my whole herd of 8 does (at the time)to a sterile buck in 2008. Talk about a bummer year that was! I was convinced I was going to sell out and quit, then at the end of august that year I had one doe that fawned. All I can figure is that the button buck that I never was able to get out from the does breeder pen must have bred one. Those little fawns kept me from quitting that fall.

In my frustration of being fawn less, I bought a doe fawn that year. She has been one of my best does, and produced twin bucks her first three years here.

The sterile buck went on to double in size the next year and was my best shooter that year. Then I took the money from him, bought a bred doe and got a buck and doe fawn, sold the doe fawn for a couple hundred and she is has the best yearling buck on the guys farm, and the buck fawn I had turned into a nice 2 year old 190" breeder.

it worked out ok in the long run.

So keep at it D&T, I know it seems so beyond frustrating, but your not alone, lol.

Thanks buddy...i'm not even thinking about quitting..LOVE doing this. We just have bad after bad after bad happen. but it's all good. Just needed to vent a sec in my "go figure" moment lol.

My first yr... we lost our best yrling to ehd....then our best 2yr old and breeder to ehd...then our 2nd best yrling to ehd....then foot rot sets in on 3 bucks and one dies..a few weeks ago our best yrling hits the fence and kills itself...now a sterile buck..But we just keep on keepin on. and digging into our pockets a little deeper

Sounds like my luck!! Lol

I went thru almost the same thing last year. My first year.

I had seven does to start and two bucks. My main breeder got 6 of the does and my young buck got one doe.

My breeder was sterile so I only got one doe fawn from my young buck.

I used my hung buck again this year and he done the job. he had 6 does and gave me 15 fawns. Twin buck fawns this year from the same doe that give me a single doe fawn last year.

What a come back year for me.  Next year I will be trying a new buck ( Pork Chop ) . This is a son of Hardcore out of a Reno doe. Thank you Iowa Mike.
