Hi Everyone
I know everyone is having alot of problems with sick fawns. Especially with Ecoli and Clostridium. We are very knew to the business and have two Buck fawns being raised by the Doe's. Three weeks ago we had a 4 week old with Diaharea ( yellowish brown stool pretty much all liquid, 3 days ago we had a 2 week old looked very sunk in and very badly dehidrated with his tail up all the time. His stool was the consistency of water with brown, yellow and blood ) This 2 week old fawn was nursing for about 2 seconds at a time. Both times I called our vet who is a gentleman in his 70's and both times he had me give a shot of Naxcell and also Tribissen 400 Oral paste. I did this treatment for one day only on the 4 week old because I could not catch him and for 2 days on the 2 week old and what a difference it has made for them. The 2 week old was in very bad shape, so for 48 hours we also gave him pedialyte ( 2 ozs. ) every 2 hours to help him fight the dehydration. I am still giving pedialyte every 2 hours on this the 3rd. day but his stools are normal color and have firmed up to the consistency of tooth paste, and he is also nursing for 20 or 30 seconds at a time. Please keep in mind my wife and I have only been with the deer for about 10 months know, but this has sure helped us out and the 4 week old that had this first is growing like a horse and all stools on him are hard pellets. Hope this helps some of you out.
