Many of you were correct!!! Ticks are attracted to dry ice because as it melts it releases carbon dioxide (CO2). CO2 is what mammals (sources of blood meals for ticks) exhale. It is what mammals exhale that primarily attracts ticks - not body heat or body odor. So the gas produced by dry ice melting is like loud dinner bell to ticks!
We captured (using masking tape) 667 ticks in less than 8 hours that came to less than 1 pound of dry ice. Imagine how many ticks would come to and get a blood meal from a newborn fawn that barely moves for days in the same bedding area where we placed the dry ice tick trap...
