Wheelersburg, Oh
Good Evening Farmer's,

I Have a Doe that has a dew claw rip in her left rear foot, she has a fawn, i was wondering if i can give her a shot of Pencillin.

If so how much, and would i have to pull the fawn and start bottle feeding it?

Mitch, Scott???

Thank's Paul

Paul, Penicillin is safe for lactating animals, and should say so on the label or in the insert paperwork. Dosage depends on weight and which Pen. you are using. Being on a foot, where she can reach it to lick it and keep it clean, unless you have a reason to be concerned about it getting infected, she will probably have it healed up in no time. A little banamine, .5 to 1 cc depending on weight and how lame/painful she is, might ease her discomfort and help with any inflamation/lameness from the injury.

Paul, Robbie is right on here as far as what I would do. The banamine is recommended. Penicillin won`t hurt a thing. She should heal this pretty quick. She should be fine taking care of her baby. Just keep a closer eye on her and the baby now.

Thank's Robbie and Mitch.

I gave her 1cc of Banamine this A.M.

It looked a little swollen, but i know this will help.

Thank's again; Paul
