Just got back from Mark Pierce's farm and all I can say is WOW!! I don't really even know where to start.
As far as yearlings went I saw a bunch of Hydro-Ax and Martygraw yearlings that looked awsome! BIG open frames, long tines, and great mass. Same thing for the Jed and Pretty Boy Floyd yearlings. Alot of them where main frame 8's and 10's, just really solid, big framey deer. He also has a Timberjack / Martygraw yearling that is just incredible, big typical main frame 10, I mean BIG!!
The two year olds where the next part of the ride and they didn't disappoint. Again BIG framey typicals. I saw one out of Martygraw I told Mark he should name Martygraw Jr. because he looked just like Martygraw only a little smaller, big frame, long tines, and his beams where huge all the way out, just like Martygraws, main frame 10 with a split g2 and split eye gaurds. One of the Hydro-ax 2 year olds had one side growing bigger than the other, but the bigger side was WELL over 100"!! Jed two year olds again looked the same, I can't believe how many wide open, big frame deer he has, I thought, it can't get any better than this. Well, I was wrong, on to the "big boys"...
Hydro-Ax, Danato, and Pretty Boy Floyd all looked great. Pretty Boy Floyd is going to be wider and have more mass then he did last year, already a 6X6 and still has more to go on the beam, he should be as impressive as ever this year, can't wait to see what his main frame finishes out as. Hydro-Ax looks to be bouncing back nicely this year, he is a late grower, so we'll have to wait and see how big he gets, but he looks really good so far.
Martygraw is going to be bigger than he has ever been! He is in great shape, big long massive beams, wider than last year, and he's sporting a big drop tine on his right side. "The man" is putting it on big time this year!
Now for the biggest suprise of the day. Mark showed me a three year old that he calls "Triple A". Until now he was the best kept secret at Twin Lakes, but no more. This deer is breathtaking to see in person!! He may very well be the biggest deer on the farm this year. Big eyegaurds, huge beams, this buck took my breath away when I saw him, just unbelievable!! I just kept saying WOW over and over again. Be watching for this buck in the near future, because he going to be something special.
Before everyone starts asking about pictures, Mark asked me not to post any until he had his guy come out and photograph them, so out of respect for Mark's wishes, no pictures will be included. He told me, it's not that I'm trying to hide them, I just want the best pictures to represent the deer the way they deserve to be, and I agree. Mark told me it wouldn't be too much longer and he will have pictures out. I told him that when he got them, I'd post them for him so everyone can see these big boys.
Mark wanted me to tell everyone that they are welcome to come visit Twin Lakes. You don't have to take my word for it, go and see these great deer for yourselves, it is definately worth the trip, you won't be disappointed.
Sorry to be so long winded, but it was an awsome experience to get to see so many great deer in one place. I don't think I've talked about half the great deer I saw, but I have to stop. If I don't I'll be up all night typing. All I can say is thanks Mark, I had a great time.
