Tube Feeding For 2 Weeks!

What is the longest anyone has kept a fawn alive tube feeding it? I have a 2 1/2 week old doe fawn that I have tube fed for 15 days. I am hoping to feed for about another 15 to 20 days and then wean her. Can it be done. Has anyone ever had to tube feed a fawn till weaning?

She is in perfect health and is doing really well. She just will not suck on a nipple or anything else as far as that goes. I have tried everything. She is just stubborn or maybe has an impediment? Who knows. Just looking for some of your thoughts.

Thanks.

Maybe try a pail of milk and don't put out any water. She is old enough to drink from a pail. Put a ice pack in it to keep the milk good. Just a idea. I never had one refuse milk longer than two week myself. Seemed like the light bulb went on one day and she took off feeding.

I had a fawn that would not take a bottle, we got her started by accident. she was up in my arms and stared sucking on the bottom of my ear lobe. My wife wiped a little milk on my ear lobe and she sucked harder. then we wiped milk on the nipple and switched it from my ear to the nipple. I know you must be thinking I am crazy but that is how we got Rosie started. In fishing it is called the bait and switch trick. Sounds crazy but it worked for us.

Is it absolutely necessary to bottle feed this fawn?? If you put it back in a pen with a doe that has just had fawns and rub some afterbirth on it she will most likely adopt it. I can't imagine it is healthy to tube feed for that long a time. If you've ever had a tube in your throat in the hospital you know how sore it can get. We've had pretty good luck with does adopting fawns.

I have been tubing a doe fawn for almost 17 days when this morning I offered her a bottle as I have done every day since we started tubing her. Low and behold she ate the WHOLE BOTTLE this morning. WOW! It was like a light switch went on! I just hope she continues to eat from the bottle. She is a little tentative.

Good luck with that Eric. It sounds like she almost broke you before you broke her!!

Ok Eric, I got to ask. What's the pedigree on this little girl? You ought to name her painky, cause she was a pain.congratulations on a job well done!

She is a Joker daughter(PA Geronimo/Maxbo/Maverick/Bucky) on a Maxin Doe (MaxHoo's Mother 323"@3) She was live bred and gave us twin doe fawns. I think I may be the only person in the country that bred to Joker other than Joe Peachy. Joker is owned by Curt Waldvogel and Joe Peachy. He was 280"@2 and Joe says he looks real good this year.

For an update she also ate 7 oz for dinner and she really nailed the bottle this time. I am keeping my finger crossed.

Josh you are right she about broke me, but I am pretty hard headed so she will have to try harder when she gets a little older! HA HA!
