Update on Mississippi's Deer Farming Bill

The bill was discussed in front of the House Wildlife and Fisheries Committee. Proponents of the deer industry did an excellent job answering questions. Special thanks to Bill Holdman, Tommy Snell, Charles Clearman, Hamilton Lemoine, Bob Hebert and Anthony Vitale.

The bill was referred to a "sub" committee of 5 representatives to decide if it should be voted on by the main committee. We are not sure if this is a stalling tactic, or if it is an attempt by chairman Eaton (who is not a supporter of our's) to keep from submitting the bill himself.

The Mississippi Department of Wildlife, Fisheries and Parks presented a professionally produced spiral wound booklet in opposition to the bill. Contained in the booklet, was over 20 pages of my postings from this forum. The reason they used my postings was to show that influence form outside the state was taking place. Imagine that! A national industry interested in opening new areas to flourish, inject commerce and revenue into the state of Mississippi (one of the poorest states in the Union) appears to be a bad thing in the eyes of the MDWFP. I hope all of the Representatives actually read the booklet and those postings will prove our industry is viable and growing.

Here are the 5 members of the sub-committee assigned to review the deer farming bill in Mississippi. Some of them do not have email addresses but their phone numbers are attached. Please call or write these representatives to ask them for their support of the deer farming bill (SB 2530) Tell them where you are from and help them realize the eyes of the nation are on Mississippi.

We need these folks to help get our bill to the floor! We must deluge them with requests for support!!!

Well done Scott.I hope They are reading this. The IUCN ,the world conservation union states "The wise & ethical use of wildlife can be consistent with & encourage conservation." If the only negatives they can raise are the positive posts you make on this forum, well done, keep up the good work.G'day from OZ ,yes I am from outside the state & interested in spending some of my money on a holiday there.Sharkey

Gee - other states want to do business with you and this is a bad thing!!! You guys need our governor Scott Walker - WI is open for business!!!

Saskatchewan's motto... Open for Business , Premier Brad Wall has us moving forward at an alarming pace, we are the only place where the World wide recession skipped over, a testament to good management , we now outproduce Alberta in conventional oil. not to mention 35% of all the worlds potash and 20 % of the worlds uranium. and the biggest deer in the world

Until our president gets wise (never happen) we are stuck buying our oil from other countries instead of drilling for our own. Those middle east countries must be laughing at us!

Just to update you on Mississippi.........The Mississippi house wildlife committee chairman (Bo Eaton) had the bill referred to a 5 man committee to consider its merits. This was a political move to effectively kill the bill. As suspected, representative Eaton hand-picked 5 reps he knew he could control and the bill died in committee. This is all the result of the influence of MDWFP, who has vowed that deer-farming will never happen in Mississippi. Wait till next year....we will be back!!!!!!!!!!!!

Scott,

That is how the critics of the industry work it in the political arena. Try to take what you can and keep on trying till you get what you need. Sooner or later you will get what the industry needs. Good luck with your groups agenda. The industry thanks people like you for your service and I thank you for your service..

Yes, each year there are elections that can change the face of the legislature. Also, if you can get some high profile folks to support you that can help. Certainly NRA supports our industry as does SCI. These folks need to get out of the 1950's and realize this is an industry that isn't going away. Perhaps there is another industry you can draw parallels to that would help - was or is MS a "dry" state?
