A vandal shot a breeder buck at a WI deer farm between the night of Nov 21st and the morning of Nov 22nd 2012.

The owner has posted a $5000 reward for information leading to the arrest of the person responsible.

The sheriffs department is being helpful and taking this seriously. A media effort to make everyone aware of the crime is going to take place. Mention of the reward will be a part of this media effort.

I have put a call into Whitetails Of Wisconsin to ask for their consideration in joining with additional money to be added to the reward for information resulting in an arrest.

Also I have been in contact with the director of NADEFA asking for the same support.

Our industry should take a unified stance against this kind of action and purse the conviction of this criminal/criminals.

If anyone else would like to officially join by posting a reward for the arrest of this criminal please let me know. This includes any other state organizations who might like to help stand up against these acts of destruction of private property.

Thank you for your time.

Roger,

This happened in SE Minn. last year. A kid came in and shot a breeder buck, but he posted a picture of himself holding it on facebook. He was arrested within the hour.

Thank God for stupid criminals! He was charged for killing livestock [theft] and has to pay restitution [judgement]. Trouble is, it's hard to get blood out of a turnip.

Yes Gary the owner knows obtaining restitution is rather unlikely and in fact catching the criminal is a long shot as well. However a crime was committed and justice needs to be pursued.

As an industry it is important cases like these are followed up on. It is important that the public learns these animals are in fact private property. (Livestock) To do nothing weakens our position as being a legit business, and will lead to more cases of this type.

Sorry to hear about this Incident. They are Poachers & Criminals and need to be dealt with as so!! Just another reason for a breeder buck or if it is not a shooter to have his antlers cut. Sad that you can't even enjoy your own animals but.....Once you cut the antlers Poachers and sightseers lose all interest. A wise man told me the only things that can happen with a deer with antlers are all BAD! Roger did they actually take the deer also or did they just kill it? A pic need to be circulated A.S.A.P. if they did take it. I'm in Michigan but if I can help in any way let me know. Word has to get out!

That would be a great idea Scott except all he did was shoot the buck and leave. He did not go inside the pens to get him. The owner found him in the middle of the pen yesterday morning.

Can the time frame be narrowed? Perhaps someone heard the shot? Check surrounding businesses (gas stations etc) within a mile or two radius that have surveillance. Interview the clerks working the shifts that correspond with the time frame of the crime. You can then check the video to try and identify those people and start interviewing. This is something we do when we have no real leads. For prosecution, a necropsy should be performed and any evidence that might remain, such as the bullet.

The owner could put up reward on facebook target ads in county where buck was shot. Post in bars around area would also help. When we caught the 2 who entered our preserve last year they told the police they were too drunk to rember. Good luck
